Lovely friendly staff and very central location, we would visit again.
Excellent food and service was a good night and will definitely be back
Excellent Bistro with fairly good choices on the menu. Efficient, cheerful staff. Would certainly visit again. Scallops, Oysters and Baked Camenbert for starters. Lamb Chops, Haggis and Duck for mains. All very good.
Very friendly staff, food was absolutely amazing, and all in all,a nice cosy and quiet place to eat. Will definitely return, and highly recommend it to all friends and family. 10/10
Brilliant evening, in polite table situated at the back of the restaurant. Everyone LOVED there food and we had a fab experience with excellent service!
Serveuse très sympathique et repas copieux! Cadre 1 peu defraichi
very nice restaurant. We had a very good moment and the ladies at the service were very nice.
Food is well prepared and good value. Don't miss the desert cranachan. Service is good.
Two of our group of 6 people had the special of Steak with a king prawn. This was most disappointing and certainly not worth the money being charged. The steak was not of the quality expected, and the mashed potatoes were not nice either. However the linguine was lovely.
Nice Food in a nice setting Will definitely come back
No stay in Edinburgh would be complete without dinner at Maxies. It's almost a family tradition. We know just what to expect from the good food, service and atmosphere so, even though we enjoy discovering new places to eat, Maxies will always be on our radar.
Food was very good. Service efficient without being overly attentive. Would go again.
Poor service, average food - would not recommend this place
Nice environment and delicious food. It's a enjoyable and valuable dinner.
Unfortunately we were disappointed in the range of foods available and the fact the steak wasn't cooked to order. Overpriced for what we got.
Can’t fault the food or the service, thanks a lot guys!
Not many guest. Despite this, bad attention and we had to notify the sloppy waiter, who was occupied eating some deep fried stuff with his hands. Food and wine average. After ten days in Scotland with very good food this was not a meal to remember.
Friendly staff, quick service. Mix of Scottish and international/tourism food
food was excellent and the staff was great will definitely be back
Found in lonely planet- great cozy cellar restaurant- tasty food and drink, intimate!
Restaurant not very cleen and desserts from the freezer. Good welcome with the team
It was ok. Not so expencive. Food was good for the price.
£14 for a chicken breast, a few new potatoes and a couple of florets of broccoli/cauliflower. The food came out way too fast therefore I suspect the chicken breast was reheated in the microwave. It was really tough and tasteless. Truly awful food. Service wasn't bad and the place itself was a little bit quirky. Apart from that though a terrible place which I would not recommend.
Very cosy atmosphere, great food and very friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Excellent for a conversation and chat .....fantastic food would recommend.
2 dishes were sent out because of steaks were well done instead of rare/medium. We waited a long time on these 2 plates and when it came the vegetables were over cooked.
Delightful staff who really looked after us well. Will Go back :)
Great value great service great location would visit again highly recommend
Great place for dinner. I would defiantly go there again.
Food was very average...to be polite 2 of the waiters were very nice. The third one was lost and useless (sorry)
Expected higher standard of food Sitting on the bunches with cushions was nice but tables too low and felt hunched over Felt under staffed? Had to ask waiters over every time and people turned away even though tables were free
Food was not great doubt the top 10 rating, had boiled chicken which was not nice and the tables were very sticky and there was a pungent fried smell filling the restaurant
Have been eating here for 40 years. Current staff, menu and cooking among the best.
What a great place, very comfortable and staff very attentive and friendly. Food was delicious.
Not as good as previous visit. Fish tasted odd and chips over cooked.,service very perfunctory. Would not come again . Previous visit in evening not lunch was much better
Went here on a recommendation lovey rustic place, food very nice staff very welcoming and friendly, would recommend a visit do give it a try.
Love the cellar venue, friendly staff and good food (seafood linguine!). Relaxed and atmospheric. Reasonably priced. Very happy to recommend. We're local and try to go at least once a year.
I had dinner here when I visited back in 2004 and was excited to bring my family when we came back this year. The service was excellent, food was great, atmosphere priceless, and the overall experience was fantastic. I’ll definitely come back the next time I’m in Edinburgh!
Really nice place to go for a meal in the city centre. The staff were very attentive and although the bistro was very busy they took time to explain to the customers items on the menu. The food was excellent
Took my French relatives to visit and they were really surprised that the food they chose was really good. Lamb chops with haggis and salmon in café de Paris sauce. They wolfed it down. I was pleased with the bill. Excellent quality and good value for money. Also very old and tartan so they loved that as well.
Essen gut bis sehr gut, lokale Küche, schön urige Atmosphäre, mitten in der Altstadt, nah an Edinburgh Castle gelegen, angenehme Musik, Jazzliebhaber kommen voll auf Ihre Kosten, nette Bedienung, Wir würden jederzeit wieder dort Essen gehen.
very enjoyable experience, lovely staff and food, would definatelty recommend it and will be going again, the terrace at the back was really nice to sit out and watch the world go by
Super restaurant. Accueil chaleureux. Plats recomfortants et copieux. Situation ideale en plein old town.Choix interessants de plats typiques. cuisine simple et bonne. service rapide un dimanche soir.
I had booked online a week prior to my reservation. On arrival they seemed totally unaware of the booking. Luckily they had an empty table. The wine we selected and one of the main courses were not available. The bread with the salmon had been lying out for ages and was very stale. The battered fish had hardly any batter on it and must be one of the smallest pieces of fish I have seen served as a main course. Will not be back. Staff seemed completely uninterested.
As always ... great cellar restaurant, great location, great ambience, great food, great service, reasonable price. It's not a visit to Edinburgh without a visit to Maxies.
Attentive staff, good atmosphere, and the food and wine were very reasonably priced. Will certainly return again. Good comfortable surroundings located in the Old Town of Edinburgh.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was tasty, the service top class and the menu prices and wine list prices very reasonable. The whole place had character.
Great experience, lovely ambience and great food. The staff were lovely and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Well worth a visit. Hidden treasure.
I chose the brie for my main course, the table next to us ordered a brie as a starter and it was the same size? For £4 extra, it seemed a bit stingey however the food was amazing and the service was brilliant.
Food was terrible so were the staff. Food was cold and they couldnt care less about it . They forgot our drinks and waited forever to get someone to come near to tell them. Overall experience was shocking to say the least.
