Good food, however, No vegetables with the main meal..more like a starter Overpriced for just that. Starter of Brie was slightly overcooked as well q

Excellent lamb chops with haggis needs and tatties! Excellent portuguese wine!Nice atmosphere and friendly service! Cranachan good but not to the level of main and wine, in my opinion. Overall - Very positive experience for me at Maxies Bistro! Never let me down.

Cibo ottimo e prezzi giusti. D'estate è possibile mangiare su Victoria Terrace con una vista magnifica della città.

Friendly staff. Adventurous meals. Good prices . The staff are knowledgable about the menu and what is happening around Edinburgh. The fact that Maxi's used to be morgue and they serve meat should not deter you.

So disappointed to visit after a couple of years absence. Has it changed hands? Dirty glasses which took ages to get changed. Fodd mediocre and very poor service. Twice asked for a bottle of wine - gave up and left. Sorry Maxies - used to like you. Please pull your socks up.

I read really good reviews about this place so thought we'd try it. I was slightly disappointed, firstly it was much smaller than I expected and the night we were there , it was really quiet and the place felt quite cold. My partner ordered a coffee which was lukewarm at best so had to get another one. We had 2 courses, steak for our main course and a dessert. The steak, for the price, was ok but we've had better steaks elsewhere for the same price. The desserts were generous though in their portion sizes.

Although a bit tight on space, friendly staff, very welcoming, food well presented. Toilets could do with a bit of an upgrade. All in all a very pleasant evening

I really enjoyed my meal and all the staff were very nice. I only found it as I was given a groupon voucher, I'm sure we will return though.

Very nice restaurant, nice food and drinks, kind and friendly staff helping with the choise of the dishes. Quite a wide range of menu items and appropriate prices. Very, very nice location, on Victoria Terrace. Great disappointment for the lack of communication between Quandoo, the site which manages with reservations, and the restaurant that hadn't received any communication about my booking and that had'n reserved any table for me and my husband. Great promptness of the restaurant manager to find us a quick accomodation but I wonder what could she do if we'd arrived at a busiest time, in a busiest day?....

Good meat, but very little tast. Dessert was god+, but they use storebought sirup and that ruins the flavor of the cake. Staff was Nice and helpful.

When we there in December '14 Maxie's was amazing. This time upon return something was VERY different. We understood that Scotland had just been affe ted by flooding but they were openamd seemed not affected. First the staff was no where near as friendly. They seemed in no hurry to serve guests but ina BIG hurry to clear and turn over tables. The quality was no where near as nice, the prices had gone up and the portions went down. We will not be going back sadly.

The food was ok but just a bit odd. It's like they are not sure what style they are going for so threw it all together. Seafood linguine with sugar snap peas and peppers!

Food was well below average , sauce with haggis starter was like a cheap chicken soup , seafood pasta was covered in peppers and onions and sauce was bland , garlic bread was a baguette halved it wasn't half toasted , plus side oysters were ok and staff dealing with complaint were lovely , throwing this quality of food at tourists is not what Scottish hospitality is all about come on folks raise your standards

Food was delicious and portion sizes were huge. Unfortunately our table wasn't ready when we arrived so we were asked to go for a drink somewhere as there was no where to wait and everything from then on was a bit rushed to get us out in time for the next booking.

Casual pub type fare, friendly service. Salmon was especially good and fish and chips nor too oily. Great location near grassmarket. Good choice if you are in neighborhood.

Fantastic locally sourced food with attentive and professional waiting staff. A jewel of a restaurant tucked away in the centre of the old town. It is the very essence of what we have come to expect from Edinburgh. We will come back again.

We enjoyed the restaurant. Booking through Quandoo was troublesome because I was left unsure as to whether the booking had gone through. Fortunately when I emailed the restaurant they emailed me straight back to confirm that the booking was successful.

Housed in one of Edinburgh's old tenement buildings just down the road from the castle, Maxie's is a cosy, quirky bistro with lots of atmosphere. The food is plentiful and tasty, and the service cheerful and quick (though it wasn't busy the night we went). I would go again.

The service was excellent and the drink on arrival much appreciated. However whilst the food was very nice the portions were a little on the small side. Also our table for six was quite squashed more room would have been better. Overall a nice night. Thank you
