Ounce At Bishampton

Steak was fantastic, perfectly cooked and excellent value. Nice restaurant. We ate fairly early so very nice calm atmosphere for the first hour then as it got busier the noise level increased considerably. Definitely worth a visit but avoid peak times if you want a more serene atmosphere.

We sat in the back room and the noise levels were so bad that we couldn't hear each other across our table! I think that they need some soft furnishings in there, otherwise, I will only book for the front room from now on. Disappointingly, the food quality has dropped too (been loads of time before & usually outstanding), i.e. no salad now, less chips served, but most of all the steaks were not cooked as requested. All 4 of my party chose med-rare and some were over done and my friend's was blue at best. Might be a while before we go back again and it's now dropped off our recommended list tbh.

Great waiter, superb Dexter steak and fries, sadly the veggies at £6 were sat in 1 cm water and the beans were cooked from frozen as they were soft and lifeless, without flavour and the soaking in water didn’t help which was disappointing as the meal itself and staff was fab. Would love better veg to elevate my experience to a Fantastic !

Good food and attentive service . Great choice for steak locally

Our experience was ok, the evening felt flat and was quite clinical in service. After arriving we waited in the area at the front and was not acknowledged, staff were walking back and forth with food, but after a while someone came to the bar, apologised and then seated us. Before we sat down we were asked our drinks order which we asked for a few minutes to settle in, she came straight back asked and then food which we asked for 2 mins to look at the menu, then arrived again with order, there was no softness or personal touch, it was very regimented…, food came, too hot to touch plates…it was ok but very minimal (3 scallops?), then main came…..we were not asked at any point whether we had any allergies, and we do not, but the steak had garlic all over it which was not described on the menu to which I have concern with, after picking it off the salad would not feed 1 person never mind 2 which was a shame….the plates were too big for the table so overhung and we had to sit back as the steak was in the middle to share….we were not asked whether we were having a great time through the meal, no additional drinks order and then at the end was simply asked whether we wanted pudding….it was such a shame as it was our anniversary and a rare opportunity to come out together, that we requested the bill, paid and left with no acknowledgment again…..really disappointed

Wonderful Tuesday date night. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and kind. The pub looked so cosy with the winter nights drawing in and the food was incredible as usual.

Fabulous chateau briand and trimmings complemented with great service too

We have always enjoyed food at Ounce however this time it was not good.We did speak to the staff about it and it appears there has been a change in the kitchen.

Warm and cozy pub with friendly and welcoming staff. The food was delicious with left over food packed up for us for tea tonight. I did choose an expensive glass of wine but that too was delicious

Since Brad has left & now Anne on his way to pastures new this restaurant has definitely altered for the worse. The service is not as good, the soul of the place has gone. The chefs must also have gone because the quality of cooking has also hit the rocks. As a very frequent customer we are not happy to relay this information. Sad. Very very sad

This was our 3rd visit to Ounce in Bishampton for Sunday Lunch. I really enjoyed enjoyed my previous visits rating the Rump Cap roast at 9/10. Today was different 7/10 at best. The meat wasn't as tender and the veg was all under done. We were also charged £5 for one half pot of extra gravy, which hasn't happen before. We gave up waiting to place our dessert and coffee order so just paid and left. Without leaving a tip, which is very rare for us. Perhaps they were having a bad day but it will be a while before we go again.

Food was lovely, staff were lovely. Enjoyed our evening, only criticism was it was a bit chilly.

Delicious food. Good service. But no coffee available - the village shop was open across the road!

Family meal on the £1 an ounce offer. All steaks were great. Onion rings, cauli cheese and mushrooms were all ordered as extras. The onion rings were particularly good. Ordered a pint of lemonade which was flat, waiter said there was an issue with the gas at the pump and to order another drink. Got home to find I’d been charged for the lemonade I sent back as well as the replacement drink. So annoying and spoilt an otherwise great night.

Steaks we're chewy, chips were cold, asked for the bill but it never arrived so paid at the bar, never even got a please or thank you

Lovely staff,good fun atmosphere,tables a bit tight but ok,steak was gorgeous, as were the skin on fries but veg a bit too al dente(couldn't eat it!)only other criticism would be £5 for a pot of garlic butter(enough to give you a heart attack lol)seems a bit silly.even between two of us was excessive.we will definitely be back but maybe not bother with sides as not value for money and very wasteful.

This is the second time we visited Ounce with the bar set very high from the first time. The whole experience was excellent. We were made to feel very welcome by the enthusiastic yet professional restaurant staff. We visited on Tomahawk night, the food and wine was amazing! Looking forward to visiting again soon !

Service - brilliant! Timing - great even though they were under pressure. Steaks cooked to perfection- and as my friend who was new to the eaterie said “the best fries she had ever tasted”. So glad I chose Ounce and it didn’t let me or itself down!

We had an amazing meal.steak with fries. The steak was cooked perfectly. We had side orders of garlic mushrooms and cauliflower cheese. Both very tasty. I recommend the Jus . Delicious. .Friendly pub with excellent service. Will definitely visit again .
