Portofino - Hanley

My partner and I had a lovely meal prior to a theatre show. The food was delicious and the staff lovely very friendly and professional. Prompt service . This is our second visit and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend

Starters ok, main pizza undercooked, salmon with mash had no mash, sea bass on mediterranean had no mediterranean veg, rather a bed of cold, hard mash

We received a friendly, efficient welcome and quick service as we had specified on booking that we were going to the theatre. The theatre menu was simple and good value for money. I would have preferred a spicier sauce with my chicken, but my friend said the hint of chilli in her seafood was just right. A very pleasant start to an evening out. We will return.

Disappointed to find a pared down menu. Definitely not the Portofino experience we used to have. Must be under new management. Now just an ordinary Italian Bistro, no longer 'fine' dining. Prices are high for what you get! However, the service was very good and the food was good.

The food and staff were great but air conditioning would be a bonus as it was very warm in the booth

From the minute we walked in to the minute we left was lovely the host was friendly and polite, we were led to our table and the waitresses were so friendly and kind everyone of them smiley.. food was delicious and fair priced aswell only thing I was gutted about was I didn't take any cash I thought I could tip with card but they don't do that so take cash for a tip if ur a tipper the ladies and cooks deserved one

Have not been to this restaurant for many years because of various circumstances, and we were very impressed by both the service and quality of the food. Excellent menu choices and very reasonably priced.

It was a theatre night and was packed. Staff were lovely. Food was delightful. Have already booked my next visit. Theatre menu is great value.

Great service and choice of food. All food was lovely. My only criticism is the quality of the menus- they seemed old and tatty and the laminated covers were all peeling off the actual card menu. Nicer menus would create a much better initial impression.

This was only our 2nd time at Portofino, we again had a lovely delicious meal and the staff were amazing. We will definitely be back

First time here Definitely would go again price’s not too bad

We ordered garlic bread as a side dish to be told when receiving the mains that they were having issues with the ovens so it would be a little longer. Next thing, we were told that we would not have the garlic bread and it would be deducted from the bill. No real apology or even offering an alternative. Staff for the duration of our time there seemed stressed and not on the ball. We had our plates whisked away once we had finished, no offer to see the dessert menu, did we need any other drinks etc. Very rarely do I leave a restaurant having only had a main - no sides, starter or dessert. We felt like we had half a meal. Staff didn't bother asking how we found the food when we asked for the bill. It seemed they just wanted you gone. We didn't feel welcomed at all. Even before the oven issue, staff seemed disinterested. I wouldn't return

There was an issue with the ovens, we had garlic bread that was so crispy it was like a biscuit. We sent it back and we never received garlic mushrooms we ordered or our second round of drinks. We had to get cutlery from another table as nobody bought us any when requested. The member of staff looking after us was lovely, she apologised for the problems. It was not the best night I've ever had there. Hopefully, it was a one off.

We arrived early before the kitchen was even open. A friendly face greeted us and asked if we had a reservation. Then we were shown to our table. A lovely evening, thank you.

We visited on Saturday lunchtime, which was quiet but the music was appropriate and at the correct level. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We chose calzone and were advised of a wait which we appreciated.

Really great Italian restaurant with a good menu! Wallpaper was falling off a little in some places but other than that, great.

it was very busy food was ok however we asked prior to our meal arriving if we could order more drinks and we didnt get any one take our drink order untill we had nearly finished our meal so ended up cancelling the drinks as they still hadn't arrived by the time we had finished our food appeared to be only one person behind the bar and one person who could take the drinks order. they were very understanding when we cancelled our drink order
