really enjoyed, good food and service good value for money
What a find! From the moment we walked in the door, the staff were friendly and efficient. The menu choices were great across all 3 courses and all 3 courses were full of flavour and ample sized portions.
This was our 8th or 9th visit to Red Onion as it is has always been great food and very good value and have posted reviews to this effect in the past. Service and ambience as excellent as always but on this occasion part of the meal did not match the usual high standards. The starters were excellent but our steaks and frites main course were not as good. Both medium-rare and rare steaks ordered were well done and chewy and the frites seemed to be flavourless frozen oven fries. Desserts also were excellent. Perhaps just unlucky with the steaks. Will certainly be returning to Red Onion again. Still one of the best in Glasgow.
Food was lovely and staff efficient and friendly as always.
Food and staff amazing. Will defo go back for more
First time at Red Onion thought the meal was great went for pre theatre deal both meals were superb and would try a la carte next time service was also first class
Dined from the a la carte menu, and there was an excellent choice of starters, mains and desserts. There was a set menu option which also offered fantastic value and choice. The food was delicious, possibly one of the best meals we have had. The service was great, friendly staff, short waiting times between courses and overall the experience was perfect. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and we will definitely be back for another meal. Try the cocktails, they are fantastic. If I had one thing to add, I’d ask for a margarita to be added to the menu!
I had eaten at the Red Onion only once, several years ago, prior to this visit but the experience was memorable. My last visit was equally so, the food was superb, as were all the staff. Will certainly not leave it so long till my next visit. Thank you.
Good excellent. Very good value for money. Pleasant staff. Lovely atmosphere
This is a fantastic restaurant Compliment’s to the chef And staff
Thoughtful menu with something for every palate. Beautifully cooked food, great service and fair prices - can’t ask for more. Definitely recommend.
Nice ambience great service and delicious food will be back
Great choices and value, particularly the fixed price menu. Frozen raspberries a stand out dessert.
Food was delicious. Excellent value for money. Will be back
Food and service were excellent. Will definitely be back for another visit.
Great food and excellent service in a very nice setting
Lovely dinner out! Great service! Highly recommend and always book in advance!
Starter was very good. Main? We should have complained but couldnt face it. Fish cakes had almost no fish in them and were swimming in a plate of warm cream. Extremely disappointing for what was once a good restaurant. We’ll vote with our feet- and tell our friends.
We went for lunch for my stepsons birthday. The food was delicious and the service excellent. Great menu choice, we ate from the a la carte menu. Can’t wait to go back .
Had delicious pre theatre meal. My two friends had never been to the restaurant before and were delighted with the food and service.
Great food great service and value for the money. We will return.
Fantastic food and wine great service and a brilliant atmosphere.
Delicious good and really friendly service. Thank you very much
Great choice of lovely food to suit all dietary needs! Majority of waiting staff were really friendly and attentive with the exception of one young lady who was rather abrupt on arrival - otherwise the dining experience was very good :)
First visit and won’t be my last, amazing food and service.
Me and my friend visited for lunch at the weekend. The awkward walk into curtains at the front door made it feel like a secluded place which may be a good, sort-of hidden place for something to eat (it was pre-booked). This illusion was shattered with the arrival of the food, the bang bang chicken probably exploded some time ago, wasn't spicy or warm, and the potatoes in the patatas bravas were very hard. On top of this, the noise from a number of the other tables was obscene - at times it would have required matching volume to battle the din but this would only have exacerbated the situation. Overall, very disappointing for us both.
Fantastic as always try the tasting menu there were things I thought I might not like but each course was beautiful and tasty. Will be back soon, John even comes round to check everyone is happy…. How many top chefs do that
First time diners at the Red Onion. Nice decor. The taster menu didn't have much on it that we liked so we had to opt for the 2 course a la carte. The scallops as a starter were excellent as was the rib eye steak for the main. I ended with the cheese board but wasn't too impressed with that. There was no butter and no celery or grapes or apple with it. Cheese selection could have been better. The blue cheese was rather dry. The brie was nice and creamy and the apple wood cheddar very smoky. All in all a nice experience but unfortunately I don't think I'll be back.
Food was fabulous. Fixed Price menu excellent value and a great vegan menu for my daughter. Staff were lovely with great service. Would recommend and definitely will visit again 👍
Staff were lovely and very helpful food was delicious and very reasonably priced waiting times were fine only thing was not much atmosphere as we were the only 2people seated upstairs
Great service and the good was great 👍 will definitely be back again
Went for the taster meal .) it was very nice and good value
Excellent choice and lovely meal. Service from staff was wonderful. My only complaint was that your coffee was undrinkable

The service was good. The food was delicious and atmosphere relaxed & enjoyable.
Lovely food with really good portion sizes. Extremely friendly staff. Hadn’t been for years but will be back soon
We have been here a number of times but obviously not in the last two years. The food was as delicious as ever. The service was outstanding. We will definitely be back soon!
Very enjoyable meal in a nice place: Would definitely return
What I love about Red Onion is that whenever you go you are guaranteed a warm welcome and amazing food! Love this restaurant!
First visit and definitely won't be the last the service and food was outstanding highly recommended 👌
Excellent friendly service and wonderful food. The Best duck ever.
Anniversary celebrations were the reason for our visit and Red Onion and it didn’t disappoint. The food and our server were amazing. Can’t wait to visit again.
Great food but rude service from a female server. The couple next to us felt the same and actually spoke to us about it. Food was practically thrown at us without any eye contact or pleasantry. Later a male server started work and he was lovely. Friendly and efficient. We asked to pay the bill and were met with the female server again with stony silence and a card machine thrust in front of us. Not a word spoken!! Don’t think we will be back!
Excellent food and staff were very attentive and made a great dinning experience.
Had a lovely meal as usual and the service was fantastic! Thanks
