Food was lovely, staff were friendly, atmosphere was really nice. Great vegetarian and vegan menus. My only criticism is that you are given the main menu and aren't offered the veggie/vegan menu; you have to ask for it. So if I didn't already know about it from the website I would have missed out. Personally I think everyone should be given all the options. Had a lovely night here, we will be back soon :-D

Great food well presented at Red Onion and good service. Only a few diners so bit of a lack of atmosphere. Slight confusion over lunch price as menu we were given said £11.50 for two courses but blackboard outside said £10.50 for two courses! After pointing this out the server agreed that it was indeed only £10.50 and menu had printing error!

Lovely meal, food cooked to perfection. For 3 courses of food that is as good as we had you will have to go a long way. Also a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Restaurant could do with updating, the food was nice enough. I had the steak frites (nice) + garlic butter (more an oil - not nice).

Good food, varied menu and good service. There could have been a better choice of ciders and lagers however, but on the whole a great venue for a pre theatre dinner

Had a lovely experience, food great, atmosphere lovely. I've got coeliacs disease so being able to order a full gluten free meal from your own menu is such a treat, takes the stress out of dining. Would definately recommend a visit.

Great good, separate vegan menu which is great for me. They also let me hand in a cake beforehand as a surprise for my friend after dinner. Friendly staff. I'll be going back.

This was our first visit and we found that the food we had was very good. However, it was a little off putting to see dishes from the two adjacent tables being taken back as they complained that their meals were cold. This would not put us off returning.

Great food, attentive staff, good ambience. It's the number one choice for our ladies' lunches, and the set-lunch menu is changed regularly. Brilliant value too!

A lovely meal last night at The Red Onion. Lovely friendly staff and superb food especially the cheesecake with the caramelised banana. I would have given this restaurant a 6 however they were unable to make a mini beef burger for my two year old grandson. Come on John Quigley I'm sure you could have risen to this request! Overall a lovely meal enjoyed by all.

We went at lunchtime and loved it. Food is fantastic, great value for money and portions big. Staff are very professional and attentive but not in the hovering way or asking if you are enjoying the food when you have just stuck a forkful in your mouth :). Highly recommend. Will definitely go back.

Food was very good. We were sitting upstairs and as the restaurant got busy when the staff were coming upstairs with orders they were not looking around to see if any other tables needed attention. Perhaps a little more attention required. A very little niggle. Have been to this restaurant before and enjoyed hence our return visit.

Staff nice but very disappointed with food. Had Steak frite. The steak was the worst I have ever eaten, very poor quality meat with freezer chips. Dessert was equally poor. Too many tables crammed into the mezzanine level. I won't be back!

The duck was perfectly cooked, reasonable price, great atmosphere and great choice. Friendly welcome, the food was incredible, the flavours of the duck and steak were well balanced, the cheesecake dessert also a real highlight. I started with the Crab and Prawns and again these were cooked to perfection.

Delicious food! Well presented. Beautiful restaurant. Great atmosphere. Service was also excellent and food was served quickly. We were allowed to sit and chat away after our meal and didn't feel rushed off our table at any point. Will definetly dine here again xxx

Food and service was great, Afternoon service, but could have been more ambiance. Lost a mark for being sat next to an untidy service station.

One of the most important parts of eating out for me is to firstly feel comfortable in my surroundings and in Red Onion this was true. The service and the food were outstanding, very friendly staff who gave our party plenty of time to deliberate the menu. The icing on the cake was to meet John Quigley - its good to know that it matters to him that his customers are well catered for. Will definitely visit again, perhaps for an evening meal next time.

We booked online. The restaurant was almost fully booked and we couldn't get our first choice of time. A good sign I suppose although irritating. One must be aware that nowadays Glasgow is blessed with a huge variety and number of excellent restaurants. We were greeted almost immediately when we entered and taken to our table and offered drinks. The place was packed and buzzing with seemingly happy dinners. This was at 5.30pm. The decor is practical, you can chat to neighbouring dinners if you are in the mood. All diners were nicely dressed but certainly not formally. No tattoos were visible (I'm slightly offended by this practice) The staff are friendly and helpful. The menu wide ranging. The food was tasty and the portions generous. We were told that the chef was the owner/proprietor, John Quigley. We would certainly return but would ensure to book early in order to obtain a table at a time we desired. All-in-all a pleasant experience.

From the moment we walk through the door we were greeted with a very friendly staff Drinks were order straight away and our food was order and taken by a chatty staff member during the main course we were asked by various staff members if we were enjoying our meal between courses staff came and talked to us and on leaving all said good bye

Food delightful, service great. Only issue - as soon as we sat down we were told we needed to be out by 6pm. Surely tables could just be managed rather than telling people they are on a time limit?

Lovely main courses for lunch 2/3 of the starters were also very nice (Goats Cheese and Asparagus Soup), the only slight issue was that the Thai Fish Cake starter was had fish cakes which were really dense (more akin to chicken), not really the texture I would expect to a Thai Fish cake.

Very relaxing friendly atmosphere with service to match. A great menu with plenty of variety. Enjoyed that there were at least 2 vegetarian options for main.
