Sokrates Taverna - Horwich

We didn't know where to eat - strangers in the area. We just chose this restaurant at random because we like Greek food! We got lucky. .....Though we ate early there was a great atmosphere, the food was great and the staff were really friendly.

Excellent food and ambience. Had the meze banquet and thoroughly enjoyed it! Well looked after and would definitely go back. Only downside was fancied a dessert but the waiter took too long to bring the dessert menu so had to leave without indulging!

Good food which is freshly prepared. The dips are great especially taramasalata, which normally I find too fishy this isn't . Gigantes are also very tasty .Good service. Nice ambiance

I've not been for about 10 to 12 years been 4 times in last two months including a Thursday Greek night that says it all

Great food and a great little place to be as well. Lovely friendly staff and fantastic food. What more could you want? We had the meze so we could try all the different things on offer.

Very nice food - I would really recommend the meze. Just the 15 courses and you can have extra helpings if you like. Restaurant is looking a little dated though.

It was a great meal. However, service was a bit slow towards the end of the meal as the restaurant was closing. Nevertheless the food was great!

Nice food. The aubergine dish, calamari and feta and spinach were all lovely. Foid came quickly. Wine selection was limited and I was not keen on the white I ordered.

Good food & atmosphere. The Gigantes & taramasalata are excellent as is it all. I always enjoy the koftas & the wine.Music was not too loud but audible. Great evening.

Very warm welcome. We had the midweek ( with internet voucher ) meze for £12.50. The food was delicious and kept on coming . We will definitely come again.

Meal & service excellent as always. The staff are always pleasant & helpful & the food is superb. The only negative comment I would make is that we were charged for a beer that we didn't have, but I'm sure that this will be rectified on our next visit.

Absolutley fantastic the food was beautiful and the staff were very helpful with showing us which foods taste better with what. Will definatley be returning here as it was fantastic! Already recommending to everyone we know!

Delicious authentic Greek food. Nice relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and they catered well for my husband who has coeliac disease - lots of choice. Great little restaurant we will definitely be back to try meze!

The food was delicious. We just feel our meal was rushed. So once we had eaten, we left. Had we felt more 'taken care of' we'd have stayed and had desert. A shame really. It was very different to our first visit.

First time at Sokrates Taverna and we had the meze which seemed a great way to trial the different types of food on offer. It was busy as you would expect for a Saturday night but many tables were enjoying the meze which you would assume would make things run smoothly and at a nice pace however, we didn't find that to be the case. When our meze began we suddenly got five dishes in one go and on a small table for two it was a little cramped! Luckily this slowed down but became the opposite when we waited quite sometime to be given dishes. The food was AMAZING and delicious but no one person seemed to be serving our table and so this led to what seemed slow service and confusion as to what we had or hadn't been given (looking at the menu on return home we 'missed' a couple of dishes) - even we became confused! At the end of our meal we wanted dessert and we watched two large group tables be asked and served dessert and coffee before we were even able to grab a member of staff to ask for a dessert menu. It took us 25 minutes and for such a small place this is saying something! Honestly, the food was worth going to the restaurant and may be we just picked a particularly chaotic night for service. The food was good enough we would consider trying again....fingers crossed the service and chaotic serving style was just a one off!

Thought we'd try a meze, and have to say that both the food and the service were excellent. Will definitely eat here again on the next visit to Bolton 🍴🍷😀
