Family group for mums 92nd birthday experienced lovely food and obligating staff. The location is idyllic but only 15 minutes from Grantham, an interesting historical location.

Lovely restaurant! We booked this last minute as we were passing, the service was great once sat down although there was a long queue at the bar (bad timing) and the food was great.

The ambiance in the bar and dining room was perfect, and thee bar service was first class. We were very pleased to be able to get a good meal on Sunday evening - preferring to have our main meal at that time rather than mid-day. We did find the menu a little disappointing but we all three of us chose fillet steak which was very good. We thought that the idea of having a "mini" desert was excellent - much better for the waistline. The staff in the dining room looked after us very well and served us perfectly. We have dined here many times - and will definitely go again.

Staff were very friendly, but it was extremely busy and we were put on a table in between 2 rooms. The lad who cleared our table was far too eager, he cleared our plates before my mum had finished eating - a real pet hate of mine!! Food was good, weird Yorkshire pudding (Yorkshire family) and the veg was rather too al dente. Would try the main menu but wouldn’t bother with the roast beef again!

While we found the food to be good. The menu was a bit off beat. Not sure what I'd have if I return. Expensive fish and burgers. Limited meat dishes.

It was quite noisy as there was a function occurring in the large room at the rear which resulted in quite a long wait for service . When we did get our meal it was very good although maybe a little expensive compared to other inns in the steam

Lovely surroundings and great atmosphere. Went for Sunday lunch and felt that £15.95 for 2 courses was reasonable however a £3.95 supplement for beef was a bit too much given that the portion was sufficient but not an abundance of food. Similar to other reviews we found the veg (beans/carrots/broccoli) only just cooked (extremely al dente!). A pleasant meal but nothing to rush back for. Service a bit a slow but to be expected as it was very busy.

Pleasant pub aspiring to be the gastric pub it clearly is not. A starter of lamb belly was limited, quite tasty but overpriced. The pork in puff pastry was disgusting and was sent back, the replacement 12 mins later was better but not by much. The staff were friendly and helpful but the menu flattered to deceive. We will not be returning.

Went with family for a busy mother's day. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our table to become free which is understandable for such a day, just a shame there's no seating in the bar area while you do wait. Food is always great

We met family here as a half way meet between Leeds and London. Had a delicious meal in the doggy friendly bar area. The whole place is beautiful inside and out. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I won’t be looking anywhere else for our next meet up. Well worth the journey.

Sunday Lunch was very good and good value too. A warm welcome, good service and delightful country pub atmosphere. I would have rated it a full 6 if I had received french mustard instead of english mustard when requested. A trivial thing but for a score of 6 even these small things count in my opinion. Highly recommended.

Good food and beer at The Chequers, we had the special price menu which is limited choice but still good food, unfortunately my meal - sausage and mash well, to say the portion of mash was small is an understatement, I went away hungry!

We went for Sunday lunch. Friendly, polite service. Lovely setting/atmosphere-cosy country pub with open fires. Excellent food. Only change I'd make - would be nice to see a veggie version of a Sunday roast (such as veggie pie/strudel with all the normal trimmings) rather than a totally different dish. But otherwise can't fault the place! We will definitely return.

Long wait to order food. Was offered complimentary drinks but drinks that were supposed to be complimentary were charged for on the bill. My husband did not want to spoil my birthday so did not question the bill. Food and staff were lovely.

Welcoming and very helpful staff. Service for my party of six adults and a toddler was excellent and although we would have welcomed a slightly larger choice of dishes everyone was very satisfied with both the starters and the main courses of roast beef or salmon.

As a quite lunch to celebrate a Birthday it was somewhat spoiled by the noise from the nearby tables of about 20 adults each pair having at least 1 child from months old to about 4 years old. Food was spot on usual though.

As ever, The Chequers provided a warm greeting, excellent service and outstanding food. The open fire in the bar area offered welcome heat on arrival, as did the hot, mulled wine. The menu is varied providing a nice balance of traditional and locally sourced dishes with those demonstrating the chef's flair for taste and design. And, with plenty of waiting staff, service is efficient and personal.

Lovely atmosphere.friendly and efficient staff. Food was excellent .unfortunately the accomodation let it down. The bed was uncomfortable the pillows really lumpy. The bathroom was so small the door banged into the shower door. Would eat there again but would not stay over. The breakfast was very good.

Food was mediocre and service was poor. Waited 40 mins between starter and main. Reviews seemed good so thought it was worth a visit, but sadly disappointed. For the price (expensive) I was expecting a decent Sunday roast and the service to be a lot better than it was. We will not be visiting again
