Had high expectations about restaurant but main meals were poor and compared to the starters small, service wasn’t great We have since found out it’s changed hands recently but won’t be going back
Unfortunately, service was very slow when we visited and it took over 2 hours to have just 2 courses. The food itself was well presented and tasty although they ran out of their pie of day, and several other dishes, before we could place our order at only 18.45 in the evening. The cooler had broken in the bar and so there were no draft beers on offer. All in all, not a great dining experience.
The fo0d at the chequers is always very good, however the service on most occassions is on the slow side as the staff always appear to be rushed off their feet
We are staying in the area so I researched where we could go for a good meal. The Chequers seemed it would tick all the boxes and I really thought it would wow. Unfortunately, I left feeling disappointed. My burger wasn't cooked through, so I had to send it back. It was replaced without hesitation with the vegetarian one but this was undercooked too, probably because of the chef's haste getting it out. On a positive note, the manager was very apologetic and I wasn't charged for my main course.
Food & service was good. This was our first visit back since our daughter got married there 6 years ago. A great reminder of what a beautiful place this is. We had a lovely evening & will definately be returning .
The food and restaurant were excellent however the service was not so good but maybe that was because there was a wedding evening do taking place at the same venue.
Lovely food and friendly helpful staff, value for money... cool dining room on a hot day.prompt service upon asking for the bill. I can highly recommend
Perfect Sunday lunch. Excellent service. Lovely food. Very good value for money.Definitely recommend.
Beautiful evening! It was a quiet sunny Monday evening which was lovely. We took my Son and daughter in law for their wedding anniversary and had a brilliant time. The food was exceptional and the service was great. Would certainly visit again. Lots of variety on the menu with yummy desserts and great dessert wines and cocktails.
Fantastic food quality & value surroundings very nice also staff where very good & will definitely be back soon as we enjoyed it so much
Fantastic Sunday lunch and an excellent beer garden to boot! A decent range of real ales, spirits and wines with pub having plenty of character tucked away in the small village of Woolsthorpe. The Chequers has become a regular haunt of ours over the last few years and never fails to disappoint. Well worth a visit.
Lovely meal with our daughters who were visiting for the weekend. Food and service excellent as ever even on a busy evening and hosting a wedding reception - thanks!
I am a big fan of The Chequers, however, my Sunday lunch there yesterday was a little disappointing. The food was just...basic... which I never thought I would say of there. My main was pork, apple sauce, roast potatoes, broccoli and green beans. No yorkshire pudding, stuffing, interesting veg choices. Was left a little underwhelmed. Sorry!
Excellent food and great service. Even though they were catering for a wedding that evening, our food was still served in good time. The staff were very calm, friendly and polite. I'd recommend the Chequers Inn to anyone who wants to experience a proper quality country pub.
Nice venue and pleasant staff, but there was almost an hour between starters and main courses, and the food was dry and below average, yet the place was only a third full. A real shame. Staff were apologetic but offered no credible explanation
Superb food, service, setting. Will certainly be back. The Chequers Inn is located in a stunning location in the Vale of Belvoir. Hikers and furry friends welcomed in the bar. Highly recommended.
Always a warm welcome. Consistently good food. Classics and new monthly menus keep it fresh. Good stock of guns to choose from and staff all very knowledgeable.
Group of 4 people. Pigs cheek starter x2 were terrible meat was tough & inedible, which they refunded the cost of on the bill. Salmon main course x2 was pretty tasteless, burger meal x1, burger contained an amount of hard inedible material. All other meals were OK. We have eaten here once before and were impressed which is why we returned, on this visit however much less so. Service by the staff was good, attentive & sympathetic.
Food overload sometimes at expence of presentation especially where chips or potatoes are concerned. We were missing bread on the table which we didn,t realise till others had it. Good service and pleasant staff in a nice pub and surroundings.
Stopped here on way back from London to Yorkshire. Found it on trip advisor Amazing place. lovely food, brilliant service loved it! Will certainly go back- may even get married there!
Fabulous place, dog friendly, lovely food, beautiful gardens and plenty of parking ! Will now make it our meeting place with friends dotted from Hull to Brackley :)
Family group for mums 92nd birthday experienced lovely food and obligating staff. The location is idyllic but only 15 minutes from Grantham, an interesting historical location.
Lovely restaurant! We booked this last minute as we were passing, the service was great once sat down although there was a long queue at the bar (bad timing) and the food was great.
Fabulous food, accommodation and staff. The most beautiful quaint country pub it’s a little treasure. Cannot fault the place at all !! Will be back real soon
The ambiance in the bar and dining room was perfect, and thee bar service was first class. We were very pleased to be able to get a good meal on Sunday evening - preferring to have our main meal at that time rather than mid-day. We did find the menu a little disappointing but we all three of us chose fillet steak which was very good. We thought that the idea of having a "mini" desert was excellent - much better for the waistline. The staff in the dining room looked after us very well and served us perfectly. We have dined here many times - and will definitely go again.
Staff were very friendly, but it was extremely busy and we were put on a table in between 2 rooms. The lad who cleared our table was far too eager, he cleared our plates before my mum had finished eating - a real pet hate of mine!! Food was good, weird Yorkshire pudding (Yorkshire family) and the veg was rather too al dente. Would try the main menu but wouldn’t bother with the roast beef again!
Excellent food surroundings staff.our sunday lunch could not be bettered.have been talking about this morning to a friend we plan to come midweek next time
Lovely food- for Sunday lunch - very busy but made to feel special . Warm and homely atmosphere . Attentive service and didn’t feel rushed .
While we found the food to be good. The menu was a bit off beat. Not sure what I'd have if I return. Expensive fish and burgers. Limited meat dishes.
Great food, great service and a great welcoming warm pub. The ideal place for my daughters 7th birthday meal! And will continue to frequent in the future
It was quite noisy as there was a function occurring in the large room at the rear which resulted in quite a long wait for service . When we did get our meal it was very good although maybe a little expensive compared to other inns in the steam
Lovely surroundings and great atmosphere. Went for Sunday lunch and felt that £15.95 for 2 courses was reasonable however a £3.95 supplement for beef was a bit too much given that the portion was sufficient but not an abundance of food. Similar to other reviews we found the veg (beans/carrots/broccoli) only just cooked (extremely al dente!). A pleasant meal but nothing to rush back for. Service a bit a slow but to be expected as it was very busy.
Pleasant pub aspiring to be the gastric pub it clearly is not. A starter of lamb belly was limited, quite tasty but overpriced. The pork in puff pastry was disgusting and was sent back, the replacement 12 mins later was better but not by much. The staff were friendly and helpful but the menu flattered to deceive. We will not be returning.
Food was excellent and the staff very friendly . Only minor criticism was that the service could have been a little quicker . Overall very satisfied .
Great pub good food and good service, would recommend, lovely Sunday lunches perfect after a dog walk. Location is really nice just near the castle.
Lovely food, friendly staff. Able to accommodate a last minute time change even on a busy Mother’s Day. The beef was gorgeous. Lovely fireplaces and seating area.
Went with family for a busy mother's day. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our table to become free which is understandable for such a day, just a shame there's no seating in the bar area while you do wait. Food is always great
Confit Duck, and soufflé are simply the best starters!! Excellent food and the usual exceptional service made this yet another lovely night at The Chequers - thank you Justin, Jo and team xx
We met family here as a half way meet between Leeds and London. Had a delicious meal in the doggy friendly bar area. The whole place is beautiful inside and out. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I won’t be looking anywhere else for our next meet up. Well worth the journey.
Fantastic food and service. Would recommend to everyone. Fantastic atmosphere. You are made to feel at home, right from walking in till it's time to go home.
