Food was excellent as usual but they were clearly understaffed as we had to wait 15 mins to get served with a drink upon arrival and had to prompt the waiter to take our food order after a further 30mins. The bar man was multi tasking as barman, waiter and hotel reception checking in hotel guests while the bar was busy.

Good quality food, imaginative menu with original presentation. Service was a bit slow, probably due to the fact that the weather was good and possibly an unexpected high level of customers.

Great food for Sunday lunch. Lots of choice, and our party of 7 were very pleased. Staff could have been more attentive as service was slower than expected.

Staff tried hard but generally seemed stressed. The presentation of food lacked finesse, the menu was interesting but did not live up to expectations. The duck breast with a gravy like sauce with Stilton salad did not work, the menu did not make you aware it would be served with such a sauce.

Unfortunately our experience of The Finch's was way beyond what we had experienced before. Previously we could not fault the service or the food but unfortunately this time the service was shocking, having to wait 10/15 mins for our plates to be removed once we had finished our main course. The Risotto was undercooked and crunchy to bite. Overall the standard was below average. Such a shame for somewhere that should have a great reputation.

Pleasant evening, delightful friendly staff. Food a little disappointing. Mine... goats cheese mouse was not very mouse like and somewhat bitter. Beetroot salad consisted on of sliver of beetroot sadly. Main, for me, crayfish and pea risotto, hunt the cray fish and the risotto was very dense and 'pudding like' with cheese overkill which masked any hint of the crayfish. My dinner partner had chilli beef, not much evidence of chilli but acceptable. Menu doesn't appear to change very often sadly. would go again, and have been before but would try to choose more wisely.

Food good (not excellent). Poor service (slow to take order, very slow to bring food, 45 minutes + to clear our plates after main course).

A simple but tastefully decorated room with tables well spaced. The food was delicious and well presented. Fine dining as they say on TV, but not skimpy portions. A short but sufficient wine list, reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful, no pressure to get us to move on. We had an excellent, relaxing experience after what had been a terrible journey thanks to motorway roadworks and near tropical rainstorms! Highly recommended.

Great food, excellent service and an all round lovely experience. Deffinetly not your normal pub grub, and at a very reasonable price considering the quality.

Service was a little slow, portion size for the set menu was a bit small especially the goats cheese mousse. That said, food was very tasty and nice ambiance

We had to change our time and add people the staff were brilliant. One of our party was vegan and they couldn't have been more helpful. Our meals were fantastic and we went back for ice cream after our walk. We will be going again.

The actual menu is nothing like sample online menu, was quite disappointed with what was actually on the menu and not enough choice. Service was scatty, reasonably slow and waiters are in no way knowledgable. Food was okay, not bad but nothing special. Reasonably priced, no where near as good as it had been in the past. Bit of a disappointment, wouldn't return or recommend. Nice location though

Amazing! Best smoked salmon and beef we've had for a long time! Brilliant staff...the only thing I felt lacking was the very poor lighting, even at lunchtime! We went to the finches arms 20 years' ago after our wedding and loved it then...many thanks to all, Alex and Nick. Oh yes and sorry but the Yorkshire pud was soggy!

Excellent, food, accommodation and staff. From the moment we arrived we were well looked after by the receptionist. Staff were witty and happy. The food was out of this world.

This is one of my favourite restaurants but a few things really let it down on Sunday. Firstly, not all menu options were available, i did however ask if replacements would be offered to be told no, to only see once we had ordered that this happened! My Bf ended up eating something he didn't really want just because they wouldn't ask the chef about an alternative for us, but then did after we had ordered. Secondly when the mains came out, one came lacking some veg, just little things like that do make a difference. 3 of us had brownie for dessert and it was rock solid and not like a brownie at all! It should have been heated to allow it to be like a brownie! Also the view of Rutland water was lacking, it appears the bushes need trimming as there was a tiny gap to see the water and only one table could enjoy this view! Disappointing when it's one reason people go. After raving to my family about this place and also going there for a special occasion I felt really let down. Although the food was okay, the little touches and attention to detail were really lacking!

We had an absolutely delightful meal at The Finch's Arms for our first wedding anniversary. The service was very attentive without being intrusive and every course was beautifully presented and a credit to the chef. The wine could have been better but improved over time. We shall look forward to our next visit to this pretty venue.

In a beautiful setting after a 6 mile walk around the peninsula, this restaurant was a welcome sight. Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and fantastic food. Best Roast ever! Well worth a visit.

The Finch's Arms was not the great experience we have had many times in the past. Starters were ordered and when served the server did not know who got what. Soup of the Day, Cream of Parsnip was bland and uninteresting. When the mains arrived, again there was confusion as to who ordered what. Lamb ordered medium rare was served well done. After mains were cleared, we waited forty minutes in the center of the dining room for anyone to ask if we wanted dessert or coffee whilst diners who finished after us were already enjoying their desserts. One senior staff member neither knew the available selection of sorbets nor the cheese on the cheese plate. The staff are friendly but not very professional and seem distracted. A disappointment for Easter Sunday lunch.

Enjoyed our stay. Beautiful setting in a good location. Standard rooms okay. A little disappointed with the evening dinner menu and we felt it could be made a little more interesting and adventurous to how it was. Improving the menu would, in our opinion improve the overall experience. Enjoyed breakfast. Dr Ian and Karen Morley

The food was of a good standard. Unfortunately there was a wedding party planned for later in the afternoon, and I feel this did have some impact on service to other customers booked in that lunch-time. We ordered a house-wine - but were then told it was no longer available, another one was offered (but we were not informed that it was more expensive - until we got the bill!) I think this was due to additional duties and business that day.

Good restaurant, excellent staff, and the food is highly recommended. My lamb was a bit tough, but my partner's risotto was highly rated by her - a risotto expert.

The food is excellent. The service is very efficient - almost mechanical and that's my comment. It lacks any feel of personality - there needs to be a charming maître d to bind all the attributes together - a person of focus. Otherwise a good place all round

Very good overall. Food quality and presentation very good. Too many different staff served us but all very nice. Sat in room with door to outside and draft from door as people kept coming in and out annoying.

Although we had booked online, there was no table set up for us, then we were put in an extension area alone in front of an open door, that the staff came in and out with food for those who ate outdoors. It was incredibly drafty, as we had to get up each time to shut the door. Disappointing. Food however was nice.

Warm welcome as we entered the restaurant area; top class service throughout our meal; lovely food at a reasonable price within a lovely setting - great way to celebrate my wife's birthday and after cycling 17 miles around Rutland Water. Highly recommend The Finch's Arms

Nearly put off by how long it took to be noticed and greeted on arrival, but once that had happened everything was good. Nice food, pleasant service. The dining room is light and spacious and has a view across Rutland Water. An enjoyable experience.

Great food, super drinks selection and a lovely professional waitress. It was a bit noisy and the management were grumpy, which lessened our enjoyment of the visit a little.
