The food here is excellent and great value for money. The staff are hospitable and work incredibly quickly. A lovely atmosphere, particularly for small groups/couples.

Very tasty food, good service and nice atmosphere. We will be sure to return again soon. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food.

We were looking forward to eating here after reading great reviews, and we do love a good steak 😍 However, having now been we found it pretty average and generally overated, I mean the meal wasn’t bad, but I could have had the same standard of a steak meal in a nice pub. Although my prawn skewer starter was over cooked a bit, and I felt it overpriced for what it was. It was ok, but won’t be in a hurry to go back.

Acceptional quality food, lovely little restaurant, great value and service matched. Would highly recommend and will be returning again after last nigts wonderful experience, delightful.

Lovely food, great service, fantastic place to dine out, the only thing was that the wine we liked they didn't have enough in but they sorted us out with the next best bottle, so very happy with our night out. Will go again. Best steak we have all had in a very long time :)

Excellent food and great service, would visit again if in Cheltenham. Doesn't look appealing from the outside as it's in a basement, but once inside the decor is lovely, very nice and not too busy.

This place has the potential to be a great restaurant but sadly we were rather disappointed and felt that it does not live up to the glowing reviews. There were a number of issues. They had run out of T Bone steaks which seeing as we were there at 7:30pm seemed a little bit poor. We were encouraged to have the special 40 oz tomahawk steak which we were told we should share between the 2 of us. This looked impressive when it came but half of it was fat so in terms of the actual amount of meat it was only enough for one and overpriced at £40. Next issue was that having got my fingers greasy trying to hack through the steak I discovered there was no running water in the toilets to wash my hands. I am not sure it is even legal for them to be open without this, and "please use hand sanitizer instead" really did not help. Finally the desserts were all straight out of Tescos chilled section via the microwave. The so called sticky toffee pudding was not sticky toffee pudding at all, it was a microwave steamed syrup pudding. The chef apparently agreed that the tomahawk steak was fatty but they only knocked 20% off the price of it which in my view was not enough, 50% would have been more appropriate. All in all a real shame because I so wanted this place to be good.

Probably one of the best steaks in Cheltenham in a nice quiet setting. Beautiful food; although the soup tasted (Heinz?) remarkably familiar. But the main was superb. This is the place for fillet.

Fabulous service, delicious food. Would definitely return for a celebration or family occasion. Clean and tidy and great decor. Thanks for a really lovely lunch.

Great steak great service little gem, service was excellent definitely a must if your in the area. Make sure you book as was busy when we went.

Went there for my wife's birthday had nice time Staff was happy and friendly food excellent reccomend to go just need to have room of a starter and desserts selection

Only us and one other couple all evening so the restaurant lacked atmosphere. Also it was chilly in the restaurant - usually better than this. Food was OK - bit pricey.

Went on a Saturday night, looked uninviting outside, quite tacky. This was a steak place but had no sirloin steaks, so had to have rib-eye which had a lit of gristle. The waitress was very infusiastic and loud for a very small place.

Lovely restaurant. Beautifully laid out tables; professional and very pleasant waitress; fantastic meals (five clean plates!) and excellent wine. I received a free glass of prosecco for mother’s day. Would highly recommend.

We were welcomed by Alice who was such a bubbly person with lots of enthusiasm that it put a smile on your face before even having any food. The food itself was lovely skewered prawns, followed by fillet steak which was cooked to perfection. A lovely meal in pleasant surroundings with great staff. Will definitely visit again next time we are in Cheltenham. 5*

Both the service and food were exceptional, we’ve had delivery from Grill 49 before which was seriously good but the food in the restaurant is just beautiful. I’d happily recommend Grill 49 to friends

We had a lovely meal, the staff are so friendly and accommodating. It is a real find. The steaks were tender and the veg beautifully flavoured and cooked.

Lovely atmosphere, super friendly and accommodating. Had the fillet steak and tbone steak which were cooked to perfection and delicious. Husband had chips, said they were crispiest fluffies he'd had. I had salad, freshly prepared with tasty dressing. Shared crème brulé for desert, luxurious and perfectly executed.

Excellent food, freshly cooked and great quality. The staff were attentive, friendly and really made you feel welcome. All in all a great evening and we look forward to returning.

I am so pleased that we booked this restaurant for a 60th birthday celebration. It was the best steak meal that we have ever had, the staff were very friendly and the service was exceptional. Will definitely be going back.

This was a pre theatre meal. Very convenient for the Everyman in Cheltenham. We loved the Jerk Chicken. the service was attentive and they got us away in time to see the show.

We went with some friends, we all like steak so the Grill is perfect for us! We all had squid or prawns to start which were very tasty and most importantly not overcooked! Then all four of us had steaks, they were cooked exactly how we each ordered them. The bill was a pleasant surprise as it was very good value for such a nice meal. Will definitely be going back.

Very good first visit to this restaurant. Service and food both excellent I had the swordfish and my husband had a ribeye steak which was cooked exactly as requested. We will go back in the near future.

This is the second time we have been to Grill 49 and once again the food was excellent. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. Also, the prices are reasonable for the great quality of food. Will definitely be going again.

Excellent and attentive service, and superbly cooked steaks. Although a resident of Cheltenham, I had not yet visited Grill 49, now that I have I can tell you that I will be back, and rather soon.

Very quiet - almost only customers at lunch. Not exactly a jolly Christmas experience. Food was very good and also wine. Service was impeccable. Prices reasonable.

We enjoyed great night out and the food, we both had steaks, was very good. If I had to be picky would have preferred the plates to be a little warmer but still more than happy with the overall quality. Will most definitely book again.

Central location, attentive waiter, delicious food, unassuming cosy ambience, reasonable price. What's not to like! I would highly recommend this wonderful little restaurant to all !!

Good food but not great. For a restaurant that sells itself on their steaks the ribeye was disappointing and well over cooked to the ordered medium rare. Overall slightly disappointed.
