Either the waitress wasn't making the kitchen listen to customer requests or the kitchen was ignoring them, but she definitely heard me so there should be no excuse for not getting what was ordered.

The staff were very friendly, attentive from the moment we entered the restaurant. Both the service and food was excellent and will definitely book again and tell our friends about it.

I have lived in Cheltenham most of my life and sadly not heard of this restaurant before. My partner and I gladly discovered it when seeking a steak night one Saturday and we had a very pleasant experience. The service was second to none and the food was incredible. Already can't wait to go back!

Amazing experience, slowish service but if you're not in a rush then it won't bother you. The food was so worth the money and the portions were the perfect size. Would definitely go back!

Calamari tasted like it was frozen. We had to wait nearly an hour for our mains. Steak was a bit over done but tasted good. Overall disappointing and we won't be going back.

The initial welcome was good and the 2 guys running the front of house were very friendly and efficient. The meal took far too long to arrive (45 minutes after we had our starter) and this seemed to be because there was a consistent stream of food going out to delivery guys for deliveroo requirements. The steaks we ordered were fine but only luke warm- we would have returned them but had waited a long time and did not want to stay any longer.

Intimate restsurant. Delicious venison steak, cooked to perfection and served with Nash. So nice that it's not chips! Wonderful waiting staff. Highly recommend this place.

A great little place, tucked away in Rodney Road in the centre of Cheltenham. Food was amazing and service was perfect. I would highly recommend for any occasion.

Expensive for what you get . Basically steak on a pile of greasy onions, two slices of pepper,two slices of courgette and mashed potato. Not good . It's a shame as this could be a great little place and there are far ,far better places to go in Cheltenham for a fraction of the cost.

The ambience of this restaurant was delightful (on a Wednesday evening!) and the staff were extremely pleasant and attentive without being obtrusive during our meal. We had filet steaks which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. An excellent bottle of Cote du Rhone was served but it would have been preferable to have one with a traditional cork rather than a screw top! A big well done to Grill49 for providing us with a superb eating experience on this special occasion. Already looking forward to our next visit. Keith and Jan, Gloucester.

A warm welcome, efficient and outstanding mains. Only the necessity of getting to the Everyman for curtain up prevented my wife and me from sampling starters and sweets. An excellent experience and we certainly know where to go if and when we're in Cheltenham again.

Lovely meal. Didn't know this place existed! Nice if you want a relaxed and private dining experience. Food was very nice and all reasonably priced. Would recommend to anyone.

Enjoyed a really nice meal, the food was delicious. There was only one person serving but she did a great job as the place was very busy.

Lovely place, staff were great and food was phenomenal! I'm a fussy steak lover and the fillet I had there was one of the best I've ever had. All agreed we will be back!

Despite we struggled to find the restaurant on Rodney road, it turned out to be a hidden gem in the basement of 49 Rodney Road. Atmosphere was very relaxing, Food was nicely presented. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Ibbi the front of house staff was very attentive. Will be back again!!

Tremendous steaks, perfectly cooked calamari and courteous, friendly waiter. Prices very reasonable for the quality of food and being in Cheltenham. The location is a little off the beaten track and it was very quiet on a Tuesday evening but don't let this put you off - The Grill49 is the best restaurant we've been to in Cheltenham.

My friend had visited before and recommended we have the fillet steak. I can see why! It was absolutely absolutely delicious. I'll definitely visit again!

The steaks were incredible! Perfectly cooked to order. All the food was good, the service was brilliant, I would highly recommend this restaurant - a hidden gem.

After reading some good reviews on the internet we visited Grill 49, we had a excellent evening we had goats cheese to start then jerk chicken, my husband had sirloin steak all served beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. All staff were very attentive. Service was slightly slow in between courses but was worth waiting for, however we will be visiting again.

Nice place great service and good food. We came to Cheltenham for an overnight stay watching the ballet. Wished we had such a restaurant near where we live.

A lovely meal, excellent and friendly service. Good selection of food, well cooked and presented. Steaks cooked perfectly which is rare to find these days.

First things first BEST STEAK EVER! Having never eaten out in Cheltenham before I chose this restaurant as a surprise for my wife, neither of us were disappointed. The restaurant is quite small but we weren't squeezed onto a miniscule table that you had trouble fitting anything on but a plate. The service was excellent; friendly and attentive whilst not being cloying. The food itself was fantastic! Both my wife and I had the fillet steak and I can honestly say I'm having difficulty thinking of when I have had better. It was cooked to perfection (medium) and just melted in the mouth. It was very reasonably priced as well at under £20 It was served with vine tomatoes, peppers, what seemed like a whole courgette which was a bit excessive and chips or mash. Both my wife and I loved this place everything about it was right for us, not overly pretentious, excellent service and, most importantly, wonderful food. Next time we visit Cheltenham we will definitely return.

They were brilliant from start to finish and the food was glorious. It was a joint 60th dinner and they couldn't have been more helpful

The food was OK though the T-bone steak was a little chewy. A fresh steak was offered. The attitude of the staff was excellent throughout.

6 of us were all treated to excellent food with a very friendly and prompt service. Between us we had a range of dishes all of which very enjoyable. No negatives.

Good simple food and good service I had salmon and my friends had steak, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The wine is also very reasonable

Firstly may I say that most things about this establishment are fine. However on this last visit there were a couple of real no no's. One being we were sat down with menus and it was 25 minutes before our order was taken and that was with at least two visits by a waiter to the next table who I would hope could clearly see we were sat with menus in front of us. The second point was that I ordered calamari rings for a starter and what appeared was indeed that but the product was very hard, almost like cube sugar! I managed to cut or break the first couple of rings before giving up. When discussing this problem with what I believed to be a "manager" I said it looked as if the rings had been taken from the freezer and dropped in hot oil for too long a time and presented,to which he made no comment. I did not pay for the item and I have to say that everything else was just fine. We will most likely visit again in due course but will steer clear of calamari rings.....

The steak was great and the service was excellent. Would be nice to have a few more options to accompany the steak. Drinks are expensive.

Parking easy, food and drinks good. Atmosphere good. Went there with close friends to celebrate our wedding anniversaries. Overall good experience but just slightly marred by the front of house lady who whilst trying to be engaging kept making comments like we were there on the wrong night, as we walked in and when presenting the bill suggested that we had received more wine than we had ordered.

Beautiful little place, excellent food, friendly attentive staff. Really good value for money on food, drinks are expensive but on balance the food value makes up for it. We will definitely be returning. Best meal I've had for ages.

We were a party of 6 celebrating our son's A-level results. Lovely meal with three of us having fantastic steak (2 rib-eye and 1 T-bone) and two of us enjoyed jerk chicken and finally a tasty burger. Great value, excellent and friendly service - highly recommended!

Restaurant is fairly small but pleasant and the food was very good, steak was delicious and good value for money. Reason for marking down was because the service was not up to scratch; we were shown to the table and then not acknowledged/no drinks order taken or menus offered for quite a while. A table of six came in after us & they were offered drinks & given the menu before us which created a disappointing first impression; staff were pleasant but perhaps a little inexperienced & in need of training. Overall I'd say food great, service lacking & kitchen extraction needs improving as we smelt of fried food when we left. That said we would try it again as the food was great.
