Excellent evening food and ambiance at horse & farrier restaurant
Late booking accommodated even with 2 dogs. Staff friendly and service great. Fantastic amount of food and good value
Took our order. Hadn’t finished the starters when the mains arrived. Mash cold. Roast potatoes had been there all day and rock hard- beef was over - chicken was starting to go dry . Staff could see there was an issue with the food avoided coming over. Kitchen staff appeared keen to get finished and then drank at the bar when finished - and talked loudly about “what do you expect when you order food at 8.30” (we arrived and orders at 7.30 but why time has a factor in what food quality is served is beyond me). Have been staying at that pub/hotel for more than 10 years. Won’t be back.
Food was good, though meal experience spoiled by being seated at a very dark, small table squished beside the bar. Told on arrival that it was the only one available at the time of booking but would have been good to have known this beforehand as may have gone on another day. Service is certainly not the warm Cumbrian welcome which is promised ( and I have visited before with same experience). Yes, they are busy, but a smile would have been nice!
Easy to book online. Warm welcome, service was quick, friendly and efficient. We shared starters , main meal was good , portion size was good did not need a dessert although the menu was very tempting.
Lovely welcoming staff, beautiful surroundings, huge beer garden, food was plentiful (Sunday dinner), great price, food arrived quickly. The booking online experience was incredibly smooth, quick and painless. Loved our meal in stunning scenery, would definitely recommend and would definitely return for another meal. Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
Food was very nice and service very good. Disappointing that scampi and fish were off the menu
The liver was not well cooked, very tough and chewy
Excellent Sunday lunch. Lots of menu choice and food quality very good.
Great food. Great service. Good choices. Good to be back!
Food was great, staff attentive and a good selection of drinks. Nice local gins available.
Food was delicious atmosphere was welcoming all round nice experience
I had a wonderful meal. The food was lovely and we all enjoyed our food. We had our dogs with us and they were made very welcome. I thoroughly recommend it.
We had a lovely Sunday roast dinner in the evening. Some of the menu options were not available but there were still plenty of choices. Delicious food and friendly relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Quick and pleasant service, food could have been warmer with a little more taste and the gravey was too thin.
Really tasty food , massive portions , excellent ales and a decent wine list . Cheerful efficient service - highly recommended !
By 7:15 on a Sunday evening there was very little choice left. The half roast chicken was difficult to cut. Roast potatoes had seen better days. Yorkshire puddubfs Luke warm. Curry had very little chicken in it. Mainly tomatoes and bell peppers. We had a flickering light above our table and when we asked to move were told this wasn’t possible. However there was a 2-person table next to us that remained unoccupied the entire time we were there. The Wainwright Gold was very poorly kept. Have been to the H&F many times and always loved it, so this was disappointing.
Good menu choices, friendly staff, excellent food and quick service
Staff very polite food very good and on time also food was hot
Great service, quick and attentive. Really lovely food and atmosphere.
Good quality food, decent portions and fantastic service. We'll be back!
Lovely fresh food. Very tasty we all had baguettes for lunch. Been before and will definitely return.
The staff were most welcoming along with great food and drinks. A very pleasant experience.
I had a lovely meal, large portions and friendly service!
Very good food Good selection on the menu Pleasant and efficient service. Didn't have to wait long for order to be taken and food arrived quickly. Will definitely return.
Walked on the old railway line to the horse and farrier at Threlkeld with our 2 small dogs. Started with the hummus and chipolatas off the snacks which we had as starters and then we had the curry of the day which was chicken korma served with a poppadom/chutney and rice and a beef burger. Both main courses were excellent, very tasty and presented very well. The pub is lovely and the staff are very friendly and professional and efficient. We always walk to the horse and farrier from Keswick when we are here, which is several times a year and we are never disappointed! We’ll be back next time! Thank you! 👏🏻👏🏻
Very welcoming staff, nice ambience and food was good quality
Good staff. Tasty food well presented with plenty of choice for vegetarians and comfortable surroundings
We had the special of liver and onions and a traditional Cumberland sausage with plenty of mashed potato, fresh vegetables and gravy. Lovely tasty home cooked food. We will definitely come again!
Enjoyable experience. Staff extremely helpful, pleasant and nothing seemed too much trouble. Food excellent and portions bit on the large size if anything. Will visit again when in these parts!
Excellent Sunday lunch , great food plenty of options Great value
Great choice and variety of food to chose from. Good atmosphere and loaction
Great local restaurant. Food was wonderful. Big portions and friendly staff.
It was an enjoyable experience, although the lighting keeps dimming in the room. The food was good quality and well presented BUT they could easily make more choices available for people with common food intolerance's like gluten free or dairy free as the options on the menu are very limited unlike other similar venues. For example not everybody with gluten intolerance wants a curry!
Staff were brilliant very welcoming and attentive. Food was outstanding and will be back in the summer!! Thank you.
Another delicious Sunday lunch at this friendly pub. Cannot fault either food or service
Great Sunday lunch for family of 5. Comfortable atmosphere. Service was excellent. Would definitely visit again.
Fabulous place to stay and have dinner for a weekend of hiking! Great service and a very warm with lovely food. Will be back!
Lovely pub with delicious food. I had mushroom stroganoff and my husband had steak
Characterful pub serving good food and with great service . Would definitely go again .
First time visit, but will definitely be returning. Great menu choice, lovely atmosphere, good service, right price point.
Very good menu, food and great friendly staff, any problem sorted straight away.
Great food and service. Nice atmosphere as well. Good value.
What a great find this place was. Booked Sunday lunch and the food surpassed my expectations. It was delicious, well presented and there was so much of it. I had the Turkey and my Daughter the Beef, so much meat. Great value for money.
Good points: staff were very good - considerate and helpful. Less good were slow service with taking drinks and food orders for which an apology was offered which was appreciated. Also the veg and chips served with the main course were warm rather than hot.
Food was excellent, and all the staff were very good
Great food Great service Great atmosphere As always and will definitely be back
Outstanding food. Great portions. Lovely atmosphere. Great drinks selection as well. Will be back
We always come to the pub for sunday lunch on our regular visits to the Lakes. . Our meal was egually tasty as we have come to expect ,however we felt the food could have been hotter which was a disappointment. We hope considedation will be given to our review before our next visit.
Food was lovely staff were very friendly and helpful highly recommend
