Cosy setting and staff. The food is cooked to order and well worth waiting for. Everyone said it had been a wonderful evening and the food was great and plentiful.

Great and attentive staff, great choice of food on the menu and tastes great. Location is ideal and the atmosphere is in keeping with such an old and characteristic building.

Unfortunately I was very ill in the night with stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhoea following our visit to the Horse and Farrier. Clearly, either kitchen hygiene was very poor, or some of the food or ingredients were off.

Lovely place. Food is heavenly! Staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is just what you'd expect from a good country pub. Both the lamb and pork dish are exceptional.

We have eaten there twice in the last week. The Sunday roast was the best I have had out. The meal on Wednesday was the sea bass parma ham and scallop. Absolutely fantastic

We have B&B'd, feasted and imbibed at the H&F over many years. We have never been disappointed and have always returned for it is a pub with a perfect welcome. This time was for Sunday Lunch and everyone was more than satisfied. I may take this opportunity to apologise for our noisy enthusiasm but this is what happens when the well kept Jennings beers begin to flow. Cheers!

Good food and well attended to by the staff. Only downside was that we were a little bit squashed for table area (party of 7) and would have preferred a little more space. Bar was busy

We had an excellent meal at the Horse and Farrier. We were made most welcome when we arrived and taken to our pre booked table. Our menus were given to us after we had ordered our drinks. The meals were chicken curry and fish and chips for mains followed by ginger sponge pudding and rhubarb and gooseberry crumble. All meals were served in a very reasonable time without them being served too quickly or too slowly. The food was excellent and the ambience of the pub excellent too. The staff were very polite and engaged in conversation very well. Thank you very much for a most enjoyable evening

Friendly Service and atmosphere, the food was well presented but not cheap. If staying overnight make sure you are booked into the main building and not in the annexe property across the road.

Warm welcome, but quality of food has deteriorated in recent months. Two of us ordered Spanish Paella - it was more a risotto than paella, sadly.

I booked a table for lunch to have a meeting with colleagues driving up from Leeds. The food and service were excellent and the surroundings, inside and outside, were conducive to productive discussions. We were under no pressure to hurry and sat outside to finish our meeting. The Horse and Farrier is a great ambassador for Cumbria, both of my colleagues said they planned to come up with family and stay for a weekend. Thanks.

Brilliant food as always but service was a bit slow and the problem in the kitchen resulted in us waiting an hour between starters and mains.

Traditional country pub. Good choice of dishes. Slow cooked pork was good, we also enjoyed our puddings, portions are big! The staff were all friendly. The bar area is dog friendly so that's handy if you're in the area walking or on holiday. Would eat there again.

A pleasant country inn, which served good food in convivial surroundings. Staff were friendly and efficient. Helpful when we mentioned a shellfish allergy. Good to be able to book online.

Very good choice of meals, well cooked and served, good and attentive staff. Third time we've dined here, we'll be back. Just a short diversion off the main A66 in the village.

Great atmosphere.. good service. Food was tasty and presented well. My husband didn't particularly enjoy his sea bass but don't think he read the menu properly!! Only issue I had is that your website did not confirm my booking or acknowledge it so I had to spend extra time checking with the restaurant.. don't think they were too happy with your service

We have been periodic visitors to The Horse and Farrier for many years. On this occasion, as previously, we received friendly and efficient service. The food was well-cooked, plentiful and reasonably priced. The surroundings might benefit from a little upgrading, but not at the expense of their undoubted character and history. Well worth a visit for the food. Have never stayed there, so can't comment on that aspect of the service.

Great welcome and really good food. We were there for lunch so ordered a sandwich plus a side order of chips. Couldn't finish the chips due to the generous sandwich with its salad, coleslaw and crisps. Shame as the chips were chunky, crisp and tasty.
