Good greeting. Didn’t have long to wait before being served our starters. The main course was well worth waiting for. The presentation and food were terrific. When we had finished we were not rushed. Well done.
Sunday lunch for 4. Super meal, attentive staff. Very enjoyable first visit.
Excellent food at a very good price. The roast lunch is so tasty. A lovely old atmospheric building with very efficient staff. Can't recommend it highly enough but make sure you book!

Exactly the traditional cozy pub atmosphere we were looking for during our short stay in the Yorkshire’s Dales. The food and wine did not disappoint!

Excellent food and wine, warm welcome, linen and log fires, informal and relaxed. Totally our kind of place and beautifully judged
Delicious meal at The Malt Shovel on Valentine’s Day. The set menu had lovely choices and the food was exceptional. Long stemmed red rose to end a wonderful evening
Beautiful food and attentive service. Only one down side the restaurant was too warm, maybe don’t light one of the many fires. We will definitely be back
Excellent winter environment with wood burning fireplaces, friendly service , food prepared with care and good presentation. It was a wise move to go on Valentine’s Day.
Very pleasant atmosphere. Good food with decent portions. Extensive wine and drink list. Pleasant staff. No attempt to rush you through the meal and there was also ample parking.
Attractive pub setting, good ambience, excellent service and food. The menus are varied with something for everyone and specials were very tasty. Will be going often.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Excellent service and great food. We had the fish and chips and steak and ale pie and both were delicious. Staff are very warm and welcoming.
Great Sunday roast, delicious bread and butter pud and friendly staff. Really cosy pub and well worth a trip out for Sunday lunch. Highly recommend
A lovely meal and efficient, friendly service as ever! The quality of the food never wavers. Well cooked, nicely presented and delicious. A cosy, snug restaurant with a real fire 🔥
Excellent quality food with friendly service. Varied menu with several gluten free options. In addition to the regular menu items there is a specials board with several more starter and main course options. Several hand-pulled beers on offer. The one I had was in top condition.
Excellent service and food , Sunday lunch was spot on , the best in the area, service was excellent and the staff very friendly , we will be re booking
Great Food. Decent sized portions and very tasty. Didn’t really need the wood burning stoves on, but otherwise everything perfect. Great service and good value.
Took my family to the Malt Shovel. They were thrilled. Wonderful pub fantastic food, great service and lovely staff. We will all definitely be back very soon
The Inn is very comfortable 'olde world' with very welcoming staff and management. Food is lovely. Only gripe I would have is that the wait between starter and main course can sometimes be a long time - such that you have worked your way through a bottle of wine and have none left! But I will still re-visit.
Lovely Yorkshire pub in small pretty village with very welcoming hosts. Great food, well-presented and good value. Cajun fish was a favourite as was lemon posset.
Great service and good food, lovely open fireplace - felt very festive. There was a reasonable selection of food and everyone enjoyed what they had eaten.
Very pleasant lunch a bit noisy but food was nice..the batter on the fish was too thick but on the whole a nice treat for us
I had the venison and it was just perfectly cooked, absolutely delicious. My husband had the fish and chips and likewise it was just perfect. Friendly, welcoming staff and lovely roaring fires.
First time to the Malt Shovel. Lovely small pub set in the countryside serving great food. The service was friendly and professional. Will definitely visit again.
First visit for a birthday lunch today. Very pretty pub, staff so friendly and the food was exceptional. I suspect we will be back soon!
Delicious lunch - goats cheese parcels and my fellow dinner had blue cheese& pear salad with new potatoes. Great friendly service. On a wet cold day the fires were welcome too.
Fresh produce, small menu, excellent service. Food well presented and tasty. Will be recommending to family and friends. suggest you book ahead to secure a table.
Friendly welcome, warm fire on a cold night and scrumptious food. What more can I say apart from good to see you have the Lemon Posset back on the menu
great service and lovely food. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. cannot fault anything. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and you are made to feel very welcome and special.
Yet another superb meal at the warm and cosy Malt Shovel. There is always a warm welcome from the lovely staff too. Looking forward to our next visit already!
Excellent food and excellent service. Position of table we were offered was poor despite being virtually empty. Very cramped. Needs some money spending on it - outside appearance is poor with planters hanging off the wall and the toilets are very substandard for a place charging this amount for food.
I found the Malt shovel on the Internet we were staying at Nidd Hall for the weekend and this was our first day so I was looking for nice place to eat. Never been there before but I liked the decor so booked it. We were not disappointed, the service was excellent and food was excellent too. We had lovely welcome. Would recommend the Malt shovel if you are nearby but book before you go
