Lovely lunch with great friends in a lovely countryside pub. Welcoming and efficient without being rushed. Fantastic starter of monkfish in a light batter. Belly pork for main and chocolate mouse to follow.

We went with our three children for my husbands birthday. It is always a bonus when a pub has a children's menu. Lovely local pub, great fresh food and service.

Excellent meal and great friendly service in this lovely country pub in a very nice peaceful spot. Characterful pub with real fires. 4 of us. Beautifully cooked lamb Sunday roast. Good quality children's menu. Reasonably priced for such good quality.

The malt shovel is a lovely pub full of character and oozing Christmas spirit! The staff are lovely and the Sunday lunch that myself, my husband and friends had today was amazing. We will definitely be going back.

The place by the cosy fire did not materialise although we were put in a pokey hole by an electric fire. My friend's meal was lovely but mine the liver was a bit tough around the edges. It was my birthday and had also been in a car accident and wanted to be by the fire to keep my aches and pains warm. The coffee was the worse coffee either of us had ever had and just left it. I have been several times before and enjoyed it but yesterday was a let down and we wondered if the owners had changed.

Good food (and lots of it), and good value. Staff kept us up to date with order (sold out at 1300 hrs of one option)Large car park where we were able to park from early morning to go for a walk to work up an appetite.

Excellent service. Excellent food. Lovely ambience, with warm log fires and super beer. What more could you want on a cold snowy lunchtime in December!

Went for my wifes birthday. Fantastic hearty food, thoroughly enjoyed eating in a cosy setting by the log fire. They even put birthday balloons at our table, and a candle on our pudding, fantastic service!! Highly reccommend!

Lovely pub, great food and service.Have visited here a few times ,but was a little disappointed to see the lunchtime menu had been scaled down and so not as much choice. I was so looking forward to their black pudding scotch egg and steak and ale pie but they are no longer on the lunch menu , so felt a little deflated as we had travelled a fair distance and wasn’t really excited by the menu I’m afraid, which is a shame .

The food was absolutely gorgeous. We were given an amuse buche of scallops with a lovely sticky sauce and it was beautifully cooked. The rest of the meal was equally scrumptious. Wine and service were excellent. Would highly recommend a visit.
