The Racehorse

So as you know we visit most every week for the quiz. This week things didn't go so well with our food order. Two of us ordered the quiz pizza deal - one marguerita with extra mushrooms (£1 extra) and one carne. My daughter joined us this week and decided to have the salt and pepper squid starter with a side of chips. The pizzas arrived and the side of chips. The carne pizza not up to usual standard with just a bit of ham thrown on the top but cooked and edible. The marguerita with extra mushrooms had 6 pieces of button mushroom (for £1 extra!) so it got sent back. The pizza came back again, unfortunately it went back again, the base was not cooked. Oh and the squid had still not arrived so we reminded them that we were waiting for it. By the time that the pizza with mushrooms and the squid arrived I had finished my meal! The squid was a generous portion and very hot so had clearly just been cooked, the pizza had lots more mushrooms and was cooked through. Not the best week from order to actually eating but what we eventually ate was hot and tasty. Hopefully the next time we visit all will be back to the standard that we usually experience at The Racehorse .

Got served the wrong food, slow service 45 mins wait

Where we were seated was in the bar area and was very noisy. The starters are more like main courses and my caprese salad was like a packet of vine tomatoes chucked on top of salad and was far too big to finish. My main course prawn/fish Thai curry was good. If I went again, I’d make sure I chose a table in a much quieter area and shared a starter.

The venue was very busy which meant that our waiting time for food was longer than you would expect.

We were greeted as soon as we went in, asked if we had booked, checked and showed us to a lovely table next to the window, given the menu, asked if we would like drinks now while we looked to see what we fancied and returned with our drink order. Lovely, very friendly and helpful. Recommend it all.

Understaffed at time of our arrival as the barman pointed out to us! He lacked interaction / personality when taking our food order. Food was just ok. 1 meal out of the 6 ordered had to be returned....

Quiz seemed to flow better , all done by 10.30 pm which is great. Food lovely as always. Do wonder why I would have to pay a £1 for the quiz if I choose a dish off the menu, other than the pizza deal, when the pub would actually make more if I brought a drink and a meal and did the quiz for free

Roast dinner was amazing, Unfortunately it was ruined by finding glass in my eton mess. Extremely lucky not to of swallowed it or broken a tooth!

Another excellent Sunday lunchtime meal at the racehorse, would recommend it to everyone.

As always, food was very tasty and service excellent .... a lovely team of staff. We do the quiz, and have done for years, but had to leave before the end. It used to finish 10/10.15 pm now it goes on well beyond 10.30 pm .... too late on a work night. Lovely meal, well worth a visit.

Booked a birthday meal out with family, had a really good meal, great service. Had to ask for the pudding menu, and had a few issues when the bill arrived. We got charged for custard to go with the mini pudding of crumble! Madness who doesn't have custard and crumble??? But over all we had a lovely time 😊

Good table position and good service. Good food but got charged for extra we ordered but didn't get. Corrected on bill so will return as good place to enjoy.

We eat there every week on a Thursday and do the quiz. The quiz is now done by someone new who takes too long over constant explanation .... he hasn't a dire attitude and clearly likes the sound of his own voice! This week it suited us to eat there on Wednesdays instead.

Very happy served very quickly food very well cooked and good size portions. Good value for money. Will definitely visit again.

Sloppy serving of main dish. Gravy on floor - glad it didn’t go down any of my outfit. Waited some time for meal to arrive even though it wasn’t particularly busy. Music too loud to enjoy a conversation. Requested an alternative table as we (2 people) were seated at a relatively small table by a massive pillar!!! Felt cramped. First visit here in a long time and not really keen to return.

Had to wait over 30 minutes for food however we were made aware of the wait prior to ordering. Very noisy

Staff fantastic what a great change in a pub. Blonde waitress went beyond her role when one of our party became unwell. Will be back very soon

Disabled parking was reduced from 3 spaces to two spaces and one was taken by Folk Club entertainer not displaying a disabled badge.

No fish or sirloin steaks in stock on an already limited menu at 630

First visit for a few years. Went on recommendation and wasn't disappointed. Meal,service and ambience lovely xx

Food excellent, good value for money but service poor. Had to wait about 1 hr for mains and then at least 30 mins for cold desserts. Appreciate that it was busy when we went in but when we ordered desserts was hardly anyone left in the restaurant. Extremely noisy due to 2 large parties. Staff friendly enough though.
