Good food with extensive drinks menu, friendly atmosphere and a cute pub dog!

We have visited several times and enjoy it but there is always a problem with the length of time waiting for food. This particular evening the restaurant was fairly empty but there was still quite a wait. Having said that, the food was lively. If possible, the menu could have some vegan alternatives.

A busy Friday night. Staff were attentive, but it took a long time for the first round of drinks to appear. Alright after that.

Lovely friendly staff, there was no ‘rushing’ comprehensive menu, excellent food, very well presented and the service was brilliant. We shall definitely be returning. 👍🏻😁

Pie was lovely, but half the menu they hadn’t got and Southend fried chicken was more curry flavoured than southern fried.

Lovely food made with quality ingredients. We ate in the bar area as we had our dog with us and although there were quite a lot of people in the restaurant area it was pleasantly quiet. Will visit again even though it's not local for us.

Arrived and shown to table, friends had already arrived who had not eaten here before, waitress went off to get note pad to take drinks order, came back and asked if we were ready to order food! I explained we had not ordered drinks yet and could we have a few more minutes, drinks order taken, but there were no non-alcoholic drinks available for my friend. 10 mins later our food order was taken. Staters arrived, friends ordered the prawn share for 2 at £12, but it was in the same size pan as the sizzle beef @ £7.50 for 1 person! The table had no forks, waitress rectified that when I pointed it out. For a pre-booked table this should have been checked. We had no spoons either but waited to see if anyone noticed, this only came to light when a pudding was ordered and I had to point it out again Waitress very pleasant and apologised. Mains came, and as I had been before several times, I ordered my favourite, the chicken burger with sweet potatoe fries, it arrived with normal fries, the waitress rectified it straight away. It was very disappointing, not much coleslaw, burger usually stacked quite tall and appetising, it was flat and not as crispy as usual but still tasty. Just an observation for you as well, there are many cobwebs at the windows and around the hanging lights that could do with removing. I always recommend your place to many people as I have always had a fab meal and I feel your menu has something to suit everyone. I am sorry to say I was very disappointed last night, please get back to how it was so.

Dry food from the carvery area; the chef splashed meat juices over everything- great for vegetarians, and special requirements for medical needs ignored.

Birthday meal and was a brilliant experience. Lovely atmosphere, quite posh but very friendly and inviting. The food was very reasonable great menu, the best filet steak comparable to Goucho in London! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Child friendlyy son has special needs and he loved it there, even his meal was amazing. Can’t wait to go back again! Recommending to everyone! Thank you

Great Sunday carvery with a choice of 5 meats. Great value

Good food and friendly staff. However the two members of staff serving in the restraunt seemed to be abit over-stretched and forgot about us a few times.

We were all impressed with the food as it tasted great and a good variety on the menu. The service was very poor, no one came to take our drinks orders. And when we did see wait staff around and asked for drinks they would take ages to come (or not at all) and had to ask numerous times. Then you were made to feel like you were an inconvenience for asking!!! Even when going to the bar for a drink again it would take a long time to come. And most of the staff look far to young to be serving alcohol?? Once we had our food, no one came to check if it was ok.

We were really disappointed with the carvery esp as had been recommended , it all looked fabulous but had an awful oily taste to it, perhaps it was just something that happened on the day?

Nice food. Service a bit slow and very poor selection of real ales available.

Food was ok, service wasn’t great but the waiter acknowledged this and apologised after we were left waiting ages for our food- tables who arrived and ordered well after us got their food before us.

Terrible. Waiters & chef lovely. Too busy. Not enough staff.
