The place was lovely and the service and food were outstanding. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We will definitely be returning.
Very tasty Sunday lunch. Prices have gone up a bit so we didn't order the 2-course meal. Smaller portion of veg than in the past. Waiters often spill a bit of wine when pouring. Have to be careful not to dribble it in your clothes!
excellent as always friendly atmosphere excellent meal staff fantastic. We constantly rave about the restaurant to all our friends. Give our thanks to James and all the staff for a wonderful dining experience.
Perfect! Friendly staff. Restaurant was fully booked (on a Tuesday night which says a lot!). Staff appeared to have all the time in the world for you yet must have been very busy. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. Would definitely recommend 1884!
Went for a family celebration and had the Sunday lunch menu, which was a set menu but had plenty of choice and was good value. The food was tasty and plentiful, service was excellent, we didn't have to wait long but we didn't feel rushed, a very leisurely experience which is what Sunday should be about. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we would book again. The only difficulty we had was in parking nearby, but the busy Humber Street Market was on that day and spaces were in short supply. I would visit on a non Market day, and be sure to book in advance!
Very expensive for what it is, almost Michelin star level. Unfortunately won't be going back. Staff had little understanding of the menu but very friendly. Good location.
This was a truly amazing experience ! The staff were so delightful and helpful and the ambience just superb. And the food was DIVINE ! 😃😃😃😃 - worth driving 200 miles from Cheltenham and then some! My Angus steak just melted and the honeycomb with my pear tarte was to die for. The whole experience for my wife and me (my 70th birthday) was wonderful. I'm not waiting another 70 years before I return !
The food and wine were excellent, and we were really well looked after by the front of house staff even though it was a busy evening for them. Highly recommended.
best beef i have ever tasted. attentive and unobtrusive service. a wonderful experience - will be back. great atmosphere. in a great setting. keep it up
Delicious food. The service was excellent. We felt very well looked after. A treat for our son who is at Hull University. I would highly recommend it. Top place!
The food was excellent and well presented, there was a good choice of wines, good service. The Restaurant had a good atmosphere and very relaxing.
Great service from start to finish, The staff were amazing and the food even better. Great value for money i'll be back again soon enough
Been in the industry for 20 years plus Not very organised on arrival table not ready for 6 as booked and when got in there was no one in so didn't see why delayed had to get own drink for the bar while waiting for the table and when some one saw this came a said sorry I'll get them You beer choices on draught are rubbish and some were on on a Saturday night Food was fantastic and as a chef was impressed with the food Buy front of house and service didn't match the food quality really it was good but not outstanding
Great for customers with allergies of which I have many! They were knowledgable and filled me with confidence. Customer service was wonderful as was the food.
excellent service and quality but we did not realise that potatoes to go with the beef on the set menu were not included and had to be ordered as an extra
The food was good, the service was friendly, but the speed of service was poor. It was rather slow. Overall good value for the money.
Nice surroundings; staff very friendly and helpful; although menu was limited and we had to wait longer then I would have liked, the food was excellent. Would recommend for a special occasion.
A smart, spacious restaurant with attentive service and beautifully prepared food. A touch of luxury in the marina area of the city. The prices are commensurate with the surroundings - therefore not cheap, but value for money.
We loved our food and the whole ambience of the place. Would highly recommend it to friends. It was nice to have a lateish booking as we spent three hours lingering over the food and drink. Good not to be hurried out.
Amazing place with fantastic food and service. We'll worth a visit for a treat or special occasion x We would highly recommend 1884 and look forward to booking again
The food and atmosphere at 1884 is really good, but it is expensive and with so many other good restaurants popping up in the Marina area, I think 1884 needs to step up it's game a little in the overall experience.
Great food and service in traditional, but elegant surroundings. We went for lunch and had the celeriac soup and mackerel to start (both very good) with the 'posh' fish pie and the taste of autumn as our mains (both were good, but we particularly enjoyed the latter, which was like vegetarian Xmas on a plate). We finished with coffees and an orange and cinnamon bread/butter pudding between us (good, but the weakest course). Together with a 175ml glass of wine, a beer and a small bottle of water this was all less than £70 for the 2 of us, which we thought very good value for what is arguably Hull's best restaurant.
Roast dinner was Excellent. The beef was cooked perfectly but the roast potatoes could've been crispier. We will certainly be visiting on a regular basis.
Lovely starter but the wait for the main course was over 30 miniutes and the restaurant wasn't busy. When it did come there was no apology as to why it took so long. The food itself was OK but not a patch on the starter. The waitress who looked after us was very slow in clearing the table. Also on another table an elderly lady was sick while after eating her meal and none of the staff offered to help her or offer something to clear the mess up. We will not be going back.
The venue is fantastic and the service from the staff is really second to none unfortunately me and my partner were disappointed with the food. Lobster has to be one of my favourite things to eat and have tried this as a starter in many restaurants but i was very unimpressed with the dish served here also the vegetables that accompanied our main meal were very undercooked. On the plus side we did enjoy the oysters with our starter and as I said previous the staff are fantastic and the venue lovely. I have no issue spending a lot of money on a meal/dining experience but on this occasion I really do feel that the prices charged could not be justified for the quality of the meal/dining experience that we received. Me and my partner really did find this such a shame as we had high hopes after reading some of the reviews online.
Some of the best food I've ever tasted in a superb atmosphere. Brought along some colleagues who frequent restaurants around the world and they each were hugely impressed by the place. A great asset to Hull.
Food and service both very good ,only let down the air con was a bit to low for the time of year quite chilly .
Excellent service, we were looked after from start to finish top quality foo which was tasty & well cooked. One of Hulls more expensive restaurants but well worth a visit
After reading some bad reviews lately on trip advisor i was a bit unsure about 1884. Well it was fantastic, the food was top notch, the staff were friendly and good fun just what you want on xmas eve. Well done 1884
Food and service was outstanding. Only drawback was large noisy party next to us which meant we had to shout to be heard at times.
Surroundings and service were very good .the steak from the a la carte menu was excellent however the set menu choices were disappointing. The scallop starter had only 2 scallops and the chicken main course seemed to contain very little chicken and a shard of bone .
Excellent food. Really. Very good indeed! Wines also matched well by the sommelier. General atmosphere and quality of service not quite up there with other 1* restaurants, but this is compensated by the relatively low menu prices.
Booked this restaurant for our 19th Wedding Anniversary. The venue itself is was immaculate. We were greeted at the door and taken to a seat in the bar to order a drink and look at the menus. The food and wine was ordered and just before it was ready we were taken to our table, the wine waiting on the table for us. Freshly baked bread was brought to the table followed by small canopes. The main course was excellent and the staff were fantastic and very attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
The Sunday Lunch was excellent as always with really friendly service, The quality and presentation of the food was superlative - we have been to 1884 many times and have never been disappointed.
The staff were amazing and the food was to die for, if I wasn't so full I would have ordered the entire menu, highly recommend you go, well worth the money.
Excellent food, service was very measured - and professional, fairly empty so didn't get why couldn't book at preferred time but else all good. Glad not in a rush, but very pleasant evening
Excellent!! Food was delicious and very good value for money. Surroundings very pleasant with friendly staff and nice relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and visit again.
I regularly visit here and it never fails to surprise me. The service and food is at the top of its game and the menu is always changing with the seasons
My favourite place to eat in Hull. It certainly adds gravitas to our city of culture. This is a welcome addition to those of us who enjoy fine food in fine surroundings.
High quality but a little too fussy with decorative elements. Attentive service, good choice of wines by glass or carafe. Buzzy, Friday-night atmosphere without being noisy.
A great meal! Lovely fresh food and great staff, we had a fantastic night and will definitely be visiting again. Lovely location too right on the marina
fantastic food, fantastic service, just perfectly fantastic the staff were great, the atmosphere was perfect. will be paying a visit in the near future without hesitation.
We really enjoyed our Saturday lunch. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and dining room was very nice with good atmosphere. Would recommend it to anyone .
Amazing food and the cheese selection is amazing! Highly recommend to anyone looking to treat someone. Not exactly Weatherspoons prices but well worth it !
Fantastic evening as always at 1884 DSK. Amazing food and good service, more attention to ensuring drinks were made available and ability to complete payment of cheque would have even welcome. Did inform restaurant that it was a 21st celebration so acknowledgement of that would have been good.
Very attractive restaurant. Pleasant staff. We had the set menu and were very impressed by the quality and quantity. We did however have to ask when our second course was going to arrive as wait was on the lengthy side. Would very much like to try the a la carte menu - very pricey though - as Londoners we thought prices surpassed some of the quality London restaurants we eat in. Would definitely eat there again on another visit to Hull.
A truly WONDERFUL place: great food, wine and service. The atmosphere is delightful too. So much thought had gone into the menu and it was clear that the staff were all rightly proud of everything. The cheese board was splendid. In short the place is a gem and highly recommended.
Gorgeous food and helpful staff make 1884 a wonderful dining experience. Comfortable and spacious with a wide selection of wines and atmospheric surroundings. A great night out
Staff with all responsibilities went out of their way to ensure a great night. By far the best meal we have ever had in the city centre. Food was excellent. Thank you!
As usual , first class all the way. This is my favourite restaurant around by far smart service Geat food and a stonking eighties soundtrack in the background
