Wonderful place, friendly greeting, great choice of gins! Lovely decor and relaxed but efficient service with excellent food from the well priced set menu including a glass of prosecco! Excellent cheese choices included with no supplement - pleasantly surprising. Hope to come back soon and try the dinner menu. Thank you.

Excellent place, Friday lunch with the Prix Fix menu was wonderful, execution and presentation really good and in our view excellent value. Front of house slick and unobtrusive for a busy service. Really like this place.

The best place in Hull to eat if you want a treat. International quality surroundings and food, great service. We go regularly when we feel like having a special day - often for lunch. Right down on the Marina with the Humber Street/Fruit Market area around the corner and good on foot access to all the city's attractions and shopping. Market menu amazing value for money.

Really wonderful food, especially the dessert. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Friendly and professional service although a little slow at times. Would definitely recommend to a friend who enjoys quality and is prepared to pay for it.

We had a perfect evening. Lovely ambience and excellent service topped off by fabulous food, including one of the best chocolate desserts you could wish for.

The food was good but the service was very snobby - we were in Hull for City of Culture and therefore didn't fit the normal Telegraph Reader / footballers wife mould and the waiter didn't seem to know how to treat us ....

Our first trip, excellent food , drink and service. Sunday lunch was beautifully cooked and presented and the ambience was great. Won't be our last trip!

disappointed On this occasion the service was very slow and we waited a long time for service, especially between out starter and main course- about 45 minutes. When the main course came , my meal (beef) was barely warm and there were very few veg for our table of 3- no one came to ask how our meals were and we struggled to attract anyone to ask for some hot gravy and further veg. When we did eventually , we had nearly finished and the ones that came were piping hot, showing it was a definite issue

A bit disappointed this time. Nice environment, good atmosphere and very good service. Menus are subjective but on this occasion I was struggling to find something, rather than struggling to choose. Two people in our group chose sirloin steak. One was fine but the other was a poor piece of meat that the chef probably shouldn't have cooked. Two others chose the chicken dish that comprised a confit leg and a thigh that could either be described as moist and tender, or a bit jelly like. Again very subjective. The pigeon breast starter was really good. Unfortunately some of the main courses were disappointing by comparison.

We have been many times to 1884,this occasion slipped slightly below our previous experiences.the food was still good but not outstanding,we waited a long time between courses and when our main course finally arrived the food was just warm and not hot.overall though still a nice experience but maybe our previous visits built our hopes up,we will definitely go back though.

The service was glacially slow. The starter of scallops comprised two very small breaded scallops with garnish - extremely poor value. A main course of Turbot was equally minimal. Another main course of pheasant was better but the meat was tough. Overall experience was, sadly, underwhelming and overpriced.

Everything exceeded expectations although it was reminiscent of a designer label fashion shop where the lesser the quantity on display indicated the higher the cost. The main course fish was the size of a boiled egg and had we not ordered side dishes we might have needed a magnifying glass to find it. That said it was an excellent evening with good service

The service was great, we went for the chefs menu with wine pairings. Both of us really enjoyed the wines and it was great that they were tailored to our individual food options. The food itself was fantastic, couldn't find fault with anything.

Lovely greeting on arrival with drinks in the bar followed by a beautiful meal. The set menu was of good variety with quality food on offer. The cheese selection was outstanding and the waiter had an extremely good temperament and knowledge of all the cheese. Thank you

Not the first time we've been, but as we don't live near Hull, we don't always get the opportunity. Delicious food, friendly staff and lovely surroundings! We will be back again...! We even had a toddler with us, who was well catered for!

Took my husband here for his birthday lunch. We chose the set menu three course meal which was brilliant value for 25 including a glass of prosecco! We had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon the restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was amazing, well presented and good sized portions. The waiting staff were friendly and approachable. They even brought my husband out some cheesecake pieces and chocolates on a plate which they had written happy birthday on in chocolate when they discovered why we were eating there. We definitely plan to eat there again soon, couldn't fault it!!

Excellent lunch, good value though the season veg with lunch for two, seemed more like a portion for one. Staff a bit brusque and sullen, perhaps trying to be professional, but a more friendly and welcoming attitude from staff would be nice.

Perfect place for that special meal. We eat Sunday lunches when we can get in, but for that bit extra there is nothing better. Service is good without going 'over the top' and you are made to feel welcome from first passing the doorway to when you leave.

A repeat visitor to this excellent restaurant and have never been disappointed. Starting with the warm friendly welcome from the staff, good choice of meals, superb wine menu. The food tasted absolutely fabulous, medium rare fillet steak with tarragon and garlic butter. Nothing seems too much trouble for the staff and you are never rushed from your table. Would highly recommend this restaurant with no hesitation.

Really lovely ambience and attentive waiters. Food was fab although the sticky toffee pudding a bit too rich- would be better with a good vanilla ice cream. The set menu is an absolute bargain and came with a complimentary glass of Prossecco. I was worried that portion sizes would be a problem as per previous reviews but not the case. A really good evening and will come back. PS Only disappointment of the night was dinging someone's bumper in the car park on way home :(

Amazing restaurant and amazing food. Just a slight issue booked for 6 but the restaurant doesn't open till 6 so was stood outside for 5 minutes which wouldn't be an issue in summer but wasn't great in winter. Would suggest booking from 6:15

We came to 1884 for a post-Christmas get together. A few had been before, but this was the first visit for a couple of us. All I can really say is that everything was lovely; from the reception area to the main dining room. All our meals were delicious with clean plated all round for all three courses! We also found all the serving staff to be attentive, swift and very friendly and pleasant. Overall, a fantastic all round experience which we'd all like to have again soon!
