Absolutely super. Would certainly recommend this place if you want a lovely meal in a lovely setting. I had fillet steak my husband had sirloin and both were cooked perfect .
Top class experience in a top class establishment . From walking through the door to walking out we were made to feel very special thank you to all .
Outstanding food and excellent service. May be there should have been 2 fillets of sea bream rather than one - to match the plentiful helpings of roast beef - and it was a shame there was no decaffinated coffee due to supply issues, but these were minor quibbles.
Quality food and staff together with a glorious ambience lead to a wonderful experience. The £25 ppm 3 course meal option was g8 value too.
Excellent food which was well presented and served by very welcoming and attentive staff. The whole experience was a pleasure and would certainly recommend a visit.
Excellent experience for anyone looking for somewhere extremely special to eat! Food is totally amazing, which makes it worth the money. Staff and service are flawless too! Highly recommended.
Lovely experience. We had the set menu. The food was delicious with canapes on the house! All staff were really friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend.
The food was fantastic but the staff were very stuffy and rude as we weren't their kind of customer!! Not good customer service. Very disappointed
Excellent food as always, and friendly attentive staff. The only thing that let the experience down was the hour wait between starter and main courses.
The serving staff were miserable and not what you would expect from Hull's top restaurant. The food was average, I had Sea trout which was not fully cooked and floating in pea and lettuce soup. One of our party was vegetarian and the option offered was the Duck with the Duck removed, the tiniest portion arrived. It was my 65th birthday and we all got together as a family so it was not the time to make a fuss. All in all the place is nice, it's nice to out in Hull but I think they have ideas way above their station. It all finished with a bill that would not be out of place in a top London restaurnt.
Great food, people and ambiance as always. We are long standing customers and still recognised now even though we don't live in the area any more!
Food excellent except for one bland dessert (which on complaining they did not charge us for). Friendly and helpful service except for the junior waitress who was cool and hasty.
Very disappointed overall and will not return. Excellent front of house service but ALL down hill after that. Serivce was very slow despite very few covers that lunchtime. We had to ask for drinks, water, ice, salt and pepper and even collect butter for our bread rolls off another table as there was none on ours and no staff to ask. 45 minutes waiting for a starter - we both had Crab and Salmon fish cakes which although tasty were minuscule with no salad garnish. This was after asking how long the starters would be. Main course was also poor - very small portion of Sea bream and a tiny pot of vegetables to share. At NO point did anyone ask us how we were or how the meal was. This restaurant is overpriced and lacks basic courtesies and good service, it cannot hold a candle to TIckton Grange. When we expressed our dissatisfaction we had a pleasant phone call which said James was sorry to hear our opinion and if we wanted to return they would offer us a free glass of Champagne!! £63 wasted and I would not recommend this to anyone.
Dreadful menu, couldn't cut the fillet steak never mind chew it. No atmosphere, wine list very extensive but didn't stock the two that we would have liked, so pretty pointless having them on your list. The highlight of the evening was the view of the marina! Very dissapointing evening!
Food was excellent. Service was a little slow and less attentive than expected - drinks should've really been carried through from the bar to the table.
Good location, not too far from Hull centre, pleasant walk along dock side with detour to Holy Trinity Church. Efficient friendly staff, quick service, no long waits between courses. Pudding, a deconstructed crumble was the highlight, wild garlic Chicken Kiev wasn't bad either.
The location, building & decor is on trend. Nice greeting upon arrival & champagne in the bar whilst reviewing the menus. Really good, well presented food. Impressive wine list & attentive service. Impressed.
Lovely Resturant in a great location on the Waters Edge . The food was amazing - great cheese board and the decor is just amazing .
We have been a few times now and always Fantastic food and amazing atmosphere, staff and lovely and make it an lovely experience would highly recommend
It's always a pleasure and a very welcoming atmosphere dinning at this restaurant, staff are always very accommodating and polite, food is deliscious and there is plenty of choice for all tastes.
The staff were excellent, unobtrusive but ready to cater for all your needs. To be a little critical, the food was good but the portions rather small. The roast beef could have done with a pot of gravy to pour over the Yorkshire pudding, and the veg was cold unfortunately, but nicely presented. On the whole an enjoyable Sunday lunch, and we will return.
Service a little slow but otherwise all good. Enjoyed the food as always, and had great mochtailes made by very helpful bar person who could not have been more pleasant.
I found the staff to be extremely helpful and welcoming. The only down side to the food was I was too full to finish it when it tastes so delicious!!!
As ever, delicious food in a lovely environment. Service was polite as usual, but rather slow on this occasion - 90mins between arriving and main course being delivered. Weekday evening set menu is great value.
A lovely meal with attentive but relaxed service. We had the marrow bone 'extra' as an additional course and it was absolutely delicious. If you have never tried it - go on you won't be disappointed. Make sure you ask for additional bread to soak up all the juices.
a must for sunday lunch, lovely setting, always clean and staff pleasant and knowledgeable. food great, took my 80 yr old dad he really enjoyed it too. Thanks :)
The staff was amazing! Food didn't take long to come at all and the taste was to die for, very pleased wth the service and food.
We had a fantastic evening. The food, the service and the atmosphere made the whole experience very special - a lovely way to celebrate my retirement.
Excellent food, could have done with being hotter hence a 5 instead of a 6. Good attentive service. Lovely atmosphere and as we had the set menu very reasonably priced.
I visited 1884 dock street last night with my friend. We had the baked oysters to start and omg they were out of this world. It was exceptional xx
Fabulous food, great value for money in equisite and elegant surroundings. A definite returning customer based on service, quality and atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!
Service was a bit slow.but staff were friendly and helpful and food was good. Might have found the main a la carte menu a bit pricey but the lunch-time table d'hote menu was good value, even without the complementary glass of prosecco.
Excellent as always. Tasty food, lovely ambience and great value. 1884 is one of my favourite restaurants and I'll be returning again before too long.
Such a beautiful restaurant. The waiting staff were wonderful all evening right from when we arrived. Food was stunning and gorgeously presented, as were the cocktails! Highly recommended!
The location and surroundings are excellent. The food, drink and service are first class. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and visit to Hull "City of Culture".
The food was good, the waiters were polite. The service was slightly slow and the food not as amazing as we remembered for about a year ago, but still good experience.
The food and service were wonderful as always. I am coeliac and also allergic to egg which is a nuisance. The care taken with my meal is always exemplary. I have been to 1884 many times and have never been poorly afterwards. The set lunch menu is great value and delicious.
Excellent food different and exciting with great service from walking in and having a drink and then being shown to your table and totally looked after. We will visit again many times I'm sure, we have already booked a Sunday Lunch.
Poor welcome coats not taken and left to carry coats and drinks to table. Slow service all evening. Food very good but let down by service.
Very over rated and overpriced. Filet steak £29 with 6 chunky chips, my mum had to send hers back as wasn't cooked as requested. Plate of confectionery as dessert which was £5.99 was plate off bought chocolates by the look and type thing that usually accompanied a coffee in other restaurants, waiter wasn't very happy when my mum expressed her disappointment! Service though overall was very good, good atmosphere and decor etc very good. Due to standard food not worth the price tag, wouldn't be rushing back.
Location very good, staff very friendly food amazing, great attention to detail. Would definitely return if lived in that area, would like to try their Tapas bar across the way.
Superb meal on Friday night at 1884. Four of us went and despite the place being full, the food was excellent and service was very good! My mum and I had the trout and it was very tasty and tender. Cheese selection was fab and wine was reasonably priced. Upgrade to the Tattinger on the chef's menu for an extra £2.50 was well worth it! Great night!
As usual a fantastic dining experience. The cooks cater for all needs, as I am Coeliac that is brilliant! The team are always pleasant and attentive. One of my favourite places to eat.
Very expensive for what it is, almost Michelin star level. Unfortunately won't be going back. Staff had little understanding of the menu but very friendly. Good location.
Perfect! Friendly staff. Restaurant was fully booked (on a Tuesday night which says a lot!). Staff appeared to have all the time in the world for you yet must have been very busy. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. Would definitely recommend 1884!
Went for a family celebration and had the Sunday lunch menu, which was a set menu but had plenty of choice and was good value. The food was tasty and plentiful, service was excellent, we didn't have to wait long but we didn't feel rushed, a very leisurely experience which is what Sunday should be about. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we would book again. The only difficulty we had was in parking nearby, but the busy Humber Street Market was on that day and spaces were in short supply. I would visit on a non Market day, and be sure to book in advance!
Excellent food, excellent staff, we enjoyed a three course set lunch, it comes with a glass of fizz, a good choice of starters, I had the beef cheek to start, delicious, then enjoyed the chicken Kiev (not your what your thinking) it was delicious, with a lemon & tarragon taste bud sensation, we spent four hours enjoying a delightful lunch. Thank you to all the staff.
I went there to host my guest. Food and service provided in the restaurant are excellent and professional. Atmosphere is very warm ther. I definitely will go again
Very tasty Sunday lunch. Prices have gone up a bit so we didn't order the 2-course meal. Smaller portion of veg than in the past. Waiters often spill a bit of wine when pouring. Have to be careful not to dribble it in your clothes!
Quite superb food from start to finish and very well presented. Friendly, attentive staff and great atmosphere. Would certainly dine there again and recommend to family & friends.
