Great to have somewhere this stylish in Hull, especially for Sunday lunch. My parter was pleased to get a vegetarian dish that wasn't the usual goat's cheese variation. My roast beef portion was very generous, maybe slightly underdone for my taste, but I was happy enough not to send it back. We seemed to get forgotten when it came to the desserts, but a bit of hand-waving and intense eye-contact soon rectified that. The mini Yorkshire puddings were superb. A return visit for dinner is already being planned.
The food was very good, and the staff lovely and extremly attentive without being a nuisance. We will come again and we highly recommend this restaurant.
Lovely Setting, Great choice on menu and drinks. Smarter and Main where excellent, dessert was good but lacked a little bit of taste. Will return to try other itmes on the menu.
It was a most enjoyable experience, wont hesitate in returning as soon as possible. This is how it should be done, friendly welcome, attentive but not intrusive service and the food just cooked exquisitely. The best and perfectly cooked beef I can ever remember having!
The food is excellent, with imaginative and finely judged dishes, and the atmosphere relaxed. The helpful staff all made us feel welcome and at home.
Charming service and delicious food. The staff were particularly attentive to a gluten free requirement. It was a shame we had to rush off to a concert and were not able to savour our visit fully.
Lovely atmosphere, fabulous food and good, friendly, attentive service.... this is our third time at the restaurant and we have always thought if was excellent.... we will definitely be back.
We had a fantastic meal and the service was very good. Even better than last time I visited. Probably the best restaurant in the centre of Hull.
Best fillet steak ever. Staff are very attentive and efficient. Would definetley recommend this place. Waitress spilt my drink, only a little, she was very apologetic and said we could have a coffee with compliments.
The restaurant, staff, level of service and food were all excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a meal for a special occasion or as a great treat.
Excellent food at lunchtime, few people on a Wednesday though it was after 1. Service was strong though the table next to us was left uncleared for a good while into our meal even thiugh there were few folk in.
Lovely restraunt, friendly staff, fabulous food ,my wife thought she had the best steak ever (so did I ).Going again (and again) .Very nice area, pleasant alongside the yachts, people on the streets enjoying the evening, great! Bruce
Good morning. My wife and I had lunch, a main course only. The food, presentation and service was very good. The pre-meal drinks ordered were fine, the chilled sparkling water was distinctive. Staff were friendly, courteous and efficient. The venue was in great order, with background music providing a great ambience for a very pleasant lunch. Not the first visit and certainly returning soon. Thank you 1884
Absolutely brilliant. They couldn't try harder to make my disabled wife and I more comfortable than they did. Food was excellent, service fantastic and the value for money was just right. We were told that the 1884 was the best restaurant in the region and they were absolutely correct! Thanks a million.
Another amazing night at 1884, always fantastic service and delicious food. The gentleman who helped me picked my cheese board out was very knowledgeable, it's the most enjoyable cheese board I have had there. He really listened to what I like and don't like and suggested perfect choices for me! Also lovely touch of a little something extra when they heard it was our wedding anniversary, it's why we always keep coming back.
I've been to 1884 before and always had a really great experience - food and service amazing - but this visit was disappointingly quite different. Upon arrival we were seated in the bar and ordered a few drinks followed by our starter and main orders. This was at 20:15. The restaurant was quite busy. We were seated at our table at around 20:30 and our starters arrived almost immediately. These were delicious and certainly served to whet our appetites. We didn't receive our mains until 21:45 - a whole 1hr30mins after placing our orders. By this point we were very tired. The staff were great when we asked where the meals where and did offer us a complimentary dessert however this didn't arrive until 22:30 and we finally left the restaurant at 22:50. The food was good and we enjoyed the atmosphere - however we did feel it was a lengthy experience.
Four of us dined in the evening and chose meals from both the set menu and main menu. All the meals were excellent and the staff very attentive. We will dine there again.
Some of the food was a little salty for my taste (much saltier than the last time we visited) but the service was still great. We WILL be visiting again!
Fabulous service and great atmosphere . The staff were hospitable, attentive and knowledgeable about the wine list. There is nothing to fault with this fabulous restaurant
Great experience, took one of our Chinese suppliers and staff for a meal. I've visited before but the others in the party hadn't. A really good experience from start to finish, everyone loved the food and atmosphere. A great combination of tastes and service without being obtrusive. Very well done, I will certainly be back and would highly recommend.
Very interesting menu. Excellent value for money. We chose set menu and three courses. House wine was very good. Think bread/toast should have been served with pate which was rich. Service was attentive
A fantastic lunch. Food not only looks appetising it is extremely well presented with great tastes. The deserts are to die for! Worth a journey this restaurant is a must for anyone visiting not only Hull but the region. Lovely location overlooking the harbour with the cobbled streets.
wonderful setting building etc. one small gripe, time. Starter very prompt, main course 45 / 50 mins later!! very busy but.... one chef working v hard!!
Had Sunday lunch, lovely surroundings, very good food and staff were great, although they have a large selection of drinks we only had house wine which was very nice. Background music was at the right level as it was not intrusive. Will definitely return.
Lovely staff and lovely ambience. I would love to see more veggie options and also chips cooked in veg oil rather than beef dripping. Lunch was really good value for money.
Quite limited main course choices on the set menu - rabbit, mackerel or Vegetarian. Consequently we chose from the à la carte. The food was fine but focused more on presentation than content. Portions were quite small too. This was an expensive night that didn't quite live up to expectations.
Very nice surroundings. Good service. Food is good but quite expensive. Sweets were good but the previous time we went they were amazing. If you've never been before its worth a try.
service is attentive without overdoing it , the drinks and food were excellent and the covers were spread out over the afternoon to ensure a steady buzz
Always have an amazing experience at 1884. Very attentive staff, beautiful food and beautiful atmosphere. Definitely one of the nicest and most high quality restaurants in Hull.
Arrived early and had a drink in the quiet bar area , pre ordered our food and wine ,food wine and service was excellent .
very enjoyable. We had the set lunch. I did not make a particularly good choice for my main course but the salmon fishcakes as a starter were delicious. What I do like about 1884 is that they serve unusual dishes - a welcome change from the usual pie, or steak and chips. Lovely surroundings although the ladies cloakroom could do with a spring clean!
Food good, but not great for the price. Excellent dessert. Service attentive, but kitchen clearly struggling this evening and food took a long time to arrive. Lovely surroundings and nice atmosphere. If you like a fairly formal vibe, it will suit you. Otherwise, we had better food at Butler Whites.
Great lunch fabulous staff couldn't fault thank you for making our anniversary lunch so good And great news that our assistance dog in training will be allowed in in future
Overall good, not cheap but you are not only paying for food, deffinately fine dining - flavours excellent. Service could be a bit sharper and more attentive

The set lunch was excellent value with very imaginative cooking.Wines were reasonably priced and service was very good. I would have given this restaurant a 6 were it not for the obtrusive and unnecessary musak.
Brilliant food, the best value meal we've had! Beautiful setting, fine dining and fine wine. Will definitely return again and again! Fabulous food in a fabulous location!
Would of been nice if they checked if we needed drinks rather than having to keep getting attention of staff and order them. The table we were placed at was right under the air conditioning and it was freezing, requested twice for it to be turned down.
Good food excelent service well worth the visit. Enjoyed the whole experience, very nice venue. All the staff were efficient and attentive throughout our time there.
We enjoyed our visit. Food was good and service good. We would have liked more explanation about how the drinks with the set menu worked, as we had not visited before. Pleasant attentive staff.
First time at 1884 and couldn't fault it, the service was good all evening and the food was a very high standard. Very enjoyable night
Lovely presentation, quality food, reasonably priced, a surprise dessert to end a birthday celebration! The best place to eat in Hull! Highly recommended, definitely will be returning!
our server was exceptional. went the extra mile to help us. when we asked for more water she stopped what she was doing and went straight away
An incredible meal - restaurant should have a Michelin star! Staff so welcoming, helpful and attentive. Food was exceptional and little touches like homemade bread and butter helped to make the whole experience. If I lived in Hull I would certainly be a regular!!
the meal was excellent cooked to perfection, the cabbage was superb obviously a good grasp of taste by the chef. Recommended a great night celebrating my partners birthday thnk you.
Excellent food, good service, not cheap but very worth the money. Only criticism was that it's a little too dark - had to use torch on phone to read the menu later on. Highly recommend this place.
My first visit with my family to 1884 did not disappoint, attentive staff, to good food and wine,oh yes,and a cocktail or two.Thank you all at 1884.
We went for Saturday lunch which was great value at 2 courses including a glass of wine for £20. The service was excellent and the food delicious.
visited 1884 , ordered cocktail totally rubbish and blanch so expensive for nothing startling , no starters ordered due to poor small choice , main meal very overpriced , pudding fairly poor , upon recomendation thought this place would of exceeded itself, will never attend this place again !
Great food and fantastic service. Would definitely recommend this place for those wishing for a higher standard of dining. True attention to detail and great atmosphere.
Our first visit and it probably won't be our last. Interesting food with summery flavours and attractive presentation. A problem with one of our mains was resolved without fuss or argument. The ambience was good if a little noisy and echoey making conversation hard at times. Overall a very enjoyable evening.
