We booked here for our visit to York because of the vegan menu but not long before our visit my daughter was also diagnosed as coeliac therefore required gluten free options. The restaurant were so good & she was able to enjoy a 3 course gluten free vegan meal. Highly recommend & we would definitely return when next visiting York.

I chose this restaurant to celebrate my partner's birthday, before going to the Grand Opera House. We live in York and this is one of our favourite restaurants here. That's the best recommendation I can give.

Did not live up to the expection I had of a ‘ extraordinarily charming atmosphere’ as quoted on the website Arrived at 2pm for our 2.15 booking, and asked for the vegan menu. Was asked if we had mentioned at the time of booking (used online booking and it didn’t mention we had to) and was told as there was no base ingredients everything had to be made from scratch (sounds unlikely) and that as they closed at 3 we probably couldn’t have a pudding.... so felt rushed from the start (it was completely empty) The starters arrived very quickly (so obviously had prepped) and they were fine, the main I had (chickpea burger) was very thick, dry and just in a dry bun, no sauces offered to go with, the chips were lukewarm and not crispy (I couldn’t eat it all as it was dry and I have a huge appetite and was starving) so that says something,even the McDonald’s veggie burger comes with lettuce and sauce etc! Ended up with 30 mins spare but even so didn’t want a pudding after the experience so far. I found the service a little OTT, the gentleman sat typing on his laptop near us (in an empty resteraunt) which wasn’t idea for our early valentines meal! The all back tables etc showed lots of dust, a weird combination of music on, quite loudly, all in all the menu sounds promising but did not deliver and certainly didn’t enjoy the experience, went straight to True Story for pudding, which is the complete opposite vibe. I want to support places that we’re trying to have good vegan options but I certainly don’t have cash to waste on dry food and weird service, sorry

Easy to find and well located. The greeting was friendly and the service good. It was Friday lunchtime but it was quiet only us and a table of five. The decor was dark and shabby and lightening up the colour scheme, renewing the carpet and furnishings would help. The choice was limited but varied and the food was good. Price was very good.

Everything was perfect for our daughter's 21st birthday celebration - thank you. Two of us had the vegan set menu and the other 6 had the main set menu and it was all delicious, as well as good value. The staff were very welcoming and made sure it felt like a special celebration. I'd recommend it to all.

Lovely food, well presented. We all felt sorry for the person who served us, who we assumed was the owner, as he was rushed off his feet and could have done with some assistance. However as a family we don't get chance to get together too often so the slower service suited us. If you are a vegan I recommend you mention this when booking. The vegan food looked tasty and there was a good choice but we had to wait as this was prepared from scratch to order. This was my fault for not mentioning it so I have no complaint about that. I would certainly return.

Lovely food. We went at lunchtime to celebrate graduation. My son is Vegan so fantastic that there was a vegan set menu. Everyone in our party of 4 enjoyed what they ate. Staff very helpful and attentive
