Wir haben prima gegessen, alles ist ganz gesmackvoll zubereitet und sieht auch so aus. Bedienung ist professionel und sehr freundlich. Wir kommen sicher noch mal zuruck!

a lovely restaurant well placed for the theatre and city centre ,couldn't fault the attentive friendly staff but didn't overdo it.The only fault we could bring attention to was the bread used for the sandwiches which wasn't ideal ,a wider choice of bread would have been appreciated.all in all a good experience.

Always a great experience! If you like a great meal in refined surroundings you can't beat it.

A really lovely evening at 31 Castlegate! This was our Valentines dinner and it was just amazing! The quality of the food was unquestionable and the service team were thoughtful and attentive.

As always wonderful experience at 31 Castlegate, staff always friendly and helpful, we had a party of 12 , including a 3 year old and a 2 years old and nothing was any trouble to them. The food was ias usual very high standard and again with a large party the food came out on time and was hot. I can not praise 31 Castlegate enough, wonderful time was had by all our party.

Great good, great service, great value! I don't need 25 words to put that point across for everyone to see. Will definitely go back again.

We had the set menu last night, 3 courses for £17.95, could not fault it. Service was excellent, Will use again, when back in York, in early March. Keep up the good work. Allan F Clarke

The meal was delicious and the wine was very nice. It was my husband's birthday so it was important that it was a good experience. The atmosphere was very warm and friendly and the staff were very attentive. We had the lamb rump which was pink and tasted lovely too full for dessert but we did have an Irish coffee (hubby) and a ruby port (Me) to finish. It's a very interesting old building also, with an alarming looking lean. You may feel the floor is a bit uneven even when you haven't had a drink. Trust me, you're not drunk.

This is one of the finest meals in the York area. The service, quality of food and fine wine selection all add to make this a fantastic restaurant.

They do good wholesome food. Not as refined as some restaurants but still as tasty. The staff are friendly and helpful. The toilets are down some steep stairs so possibly not good for the less able bodied. Enjoyable meal and would go again.

Pleasant surroundings, good but unobtrusive service, excellent choice of food all prepared to the highest standard,, good value for money. What more could you ask for?

Great value for money, really attentive staff good food. Good pork and ham terrine starter. My main the mash was slightly cold compared to the rest of my meal The chocolate and baileys tart was really nice.

The menu doesn’t change much, which is no bad thing. But what they create is excellent. The service was attentive but not pushy. Go try it for yourself.

Fantastic restaurant with food and service at its best. Price is very reasonable and a great atmosphere, have dined here five times and would definitely recommend it.

Great food and service. Not keen on our table, by a cupboard, well used by staff, thus disturbing us to a certain extent. Very affordable for such a good standard of cooking.

We received a very warm welcome, had a great meal and a lovely bottle of wine. Modestly priced. Some of the staff need more training

Some things were really good, and some nice ideas. Unfortunately some items not cooked well which let it down, but overall we enjoyed the meal.

Fantastic food, even from the set menu, and a really extensive wine list. The atmosphere and service were top-notch and the value was up with the best. The mushroom risotto was cooked to perfection, which can be a tricky for a lot of restaurants, and the fish cake starters were light and tangy.

Fantastic meal every time we visit. Warm welcome from the staff and lovely menus - we were in early so had choice from the set menu - everything is delicious and fab new desserts on today’s menu.

Amazing food. Great 3 course set evening menu. We will be be back. Good atmosphere and nice surroundings. Highly recommended. This wasn't our first visit. We go regularly.

A nice restaurant with nicely presented food. It was quite empty when we were there, which detracted from the atmosphere somewhat. Although we had the 3 course set menu, I personally could have eaten more than was offered. Just no wow factor for me at 31 Castlegate.

The food was of a high standard and the presentation was Impressive once again. The atmosphere at the restaurant was pleasant and the staff were friendly.

Excellent value for money in a prime location by Clifford's Tower. Central for all attractions with a good choice of menu. Wine list reasonably priced.

This was my first visit to 31 Castlegate Restaurant. I cannot commend it high enough. The menu, service and quality of the food was absolutely first class. I will most certainly return.

Food good . Service ok would I go again probaly But didn't have the wow factor but was still an enjoyable night with good company

Nice place good staff but wife's food not very warm. Enjoyed what we had but I am sure there are better places would not go back.

A fine restaurant in central York. Visited early in the evening in a group of 4 and had the Fixed Price Menu. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The meal was good with the sweets being considered very good. Everything we ordered was good and tasty. Our only very slight negative was the fairly restricted drinks menu - fruit ciders and craft beers were both absent. Pricing was commensurate with the food and the ambience. Recommended.

A really enjoyable meal. Good food and excellent service by very polite and friendly staff. We will definitely be going back to eat there again.

Good meal, service excellent, however meal ( Ribeye Steak) could have been a lot hotter, veg for one of us was a good 5 minutes after rest of meal was delivered, nice welcome and staff attentive, it was a Birthday evening and a free dessert was offered.

We dined here before attending the theatre. Chose the set menu, what good value for money! We had three courses each, all lovely and tasty and presented beautifully. Would certainly recommend .

Lovely atmosphere with very friendly staff and exceptional food. My hake was cooked to perfection as was my partner's pork tenderloin. Definitely to be experienced.

Excellent restaurant for couples and larger groups. Food is first class with a very varied menu. Set meme and alacart available. Staff very attentive. Atmosphere just lovely. Couldn't have been happier with our visit.

This is a lovely little overlooked gem that we found, whilst staying in york for our anniversay, the whole expierience was faultless, the staff was warm and welcoming, the food was reasonably priced for what we had my husband and i had the venison main wich was cooked perfectly. We highly recomend this place.

This is a lovely restaurant with friendly, helpful staff. The food is excellent and beautifully presented. The menu included Venison scotch egg as a starter, which we loved. It was great to find different dishes.

Strange place - looks as if it should be very good but disappointing. Awful loud eighties music, brick effect wallpaper, cafe like tables and old worn carpet. Small kitchen with washing up area in the middle of the restaurant. Weird, chirpy but service that lacked knowledge. Food was pretentious and overly complicated but didn't use great ingredients and was hugely disappointing. Saving grace was the Argentinian Merlot which was half decent at a good price (for a restaurant).

Food was good but not quite great. Service was excellent throughout, waitress was attentive. Slightly overpriced for what we had. Would be happy to go back and try something different

Good food, portions could have been a bit larger. Wine was excellent as was the service, nothing was too much trouble for our waiter even though one of our party kept changing their order
