Staff gave wonderful from wine selection for our meal right down to trying something new and varied from our regular pallet. A truly lovely evening

We ate here this evening and the food was excellent as usual. But the main reason for writing a review is that the service provided by Justina was sublime and she is a credit to your restaurant. We had a couple of small issues that she dealt with with outstanding professionalism and a degree of customer care seldom seen. Pass on our compliment to her please.

Cote never disappoints, excellent food and a nice buzz about the restaurant, although a tendency to be a little noisy at times

We were met at the door with a nice welcome, given a choice of tables. A waitress then approached, a very nice young lady. Vicky (not sure if that's how you spell it as she is Romanian). She took our drink order plus the two complimentary cocktails which were very nice. A few minutes later she came back and took our food order explaining a few things to us regarding the food we ordered which was nice. During our meal she came to us a couple of times asking if all was ok, we both said everything is fine but I did offer a suggestion; I had French onion soup which was very nice but with the big crouton in a small ball it wasn't easy to break it up with a spoon so I suggested a desert spoon/fork which she said she would feedback. When you go to a restaurant there is normally something that just doesn't go right. However, we enjoyed our free cocktail - the service was very good and the food was excellent. The glass of merlot with our meal was very good. To end we had an espresso that was hot and a good rounded flavour.

I’ve eaten at Basingstoke a handful of times as it is most local to me. The last 2 times I have been left underwhelmed. Last night upon being seated and told someone would be with us to take a drinks order I ended up after 10min going to the bar and asking for some drinks from 1 of 3 members of staff chatting amongst themselves. They did send someone over at that point. Through the course of the meal I had to ask twice for some water. When we had dessert and coffee I requested a double espresso and was presented with a single. When I explained it was a single the waitress thought in her best interest to argue with me. She went and got a double espresso and sheepishly gave it to me realising her error. No apology. When the bill arrived I asked for the tip to be removed as it most definitely was not deserved. Her face looked like I had shown her a severed head. After my disappointing visit prior to this I though I would give it another go. I had clearly waisted my time and money. Interestingly when I’ve been to your Reading and Winchester restaurants it has been faultless. I don’t think I will return to your Basingstoke restaurant. Regards Christian Hunt

Unfortunately I was treating my friend for her birthday and did not wish to make a fuss. The restaurant was not busy but our food was not very warm at all. On reflection I should have complained

Really great food at a good price as always. Service was prompt and friendly too. Only slight downside was being charged for the complimentary cocktail. Don't get me wrong, it was removed from the bill and apologies given as soon as it was queried, but it always makes me feel uncomfortable to have to question these things and it would be best to ensure it doesn't happen in the first place. But don't let it put you off. Over all a nice meal. Thank you.

Very good service and excellent food. Met up with friends we hadn’t seen for nearly 10 years so chatting for ages. No rush to pay bill or leave when we had finished eating. Very relaxed and will definitely come again.

A new menu for November with some lovely food. Staff friendly and attentive and we were not rushed. Got quite noisy making conversation difficult at times - could do with better sound absorption.

The food was very nice. Service was variable. Cleanliness (poor, chewing gum was stuck under table). Men’s toilets not very clean. Overall we had a good time but it could have been a lot better.

4 of us had a table on a busy Saturday evening. The waitress was very polite and did not rush us in ordering food. The food arrived in good time and the space between starter and main was perfect. The quality of the fare was excellent for all of us. The cost for 3 starters, 4 mains, 3 sheets, 1 non alcohol drink, 1 portion of olives and 1 bottle of red wine came to £145 Inc £16 service charge.

Was a busy Saturday lunch, but great service and really great food.

We went out for a pleasant evening meal, but felt like we were being hurried through as we were asking for the bill within 45 minutes Enjoyed food however it was not very hot. No waiting time as we had booked.

Please stop clearing plates before everyone is finished!!!!!! It's very rude and hacks me off! You've also changed the vplat rapides so that it all arrives on one plate rather thsn a separate dish of potatoes. Not as nice the new way.

I normally love Cote. One of the few chains who get it right, in terms of flavour, service, menu choice and value for money. I’m often tempted by the monthly emails with specials and the lure of the free drink! This month the Steak au poivre @ £21.50 served with wilted spinach, fries and pepper sauce lured me in, when I booked the table I had my heart set on it. whilst I was waiting for my friend to arrive I had the opportunity to peruse the menu. I spotted the 10oz ribeye @ £17.95, which is served with frites and then a choice of sauce, pepper being £2.35! So essentially the same meal as the specials menu for £0.20 cheaper! The waitress informed me the difference was the steak was coated in a lot of crushed black pepper. We had calamari to share as a starter, with fish goujons & ribeye steak & pepper sauce for mains. We had a complimentary french martini on arrival and when the waitress 1st came over to take our food order, she asked if we’d like any other drinks, I asked for water. I had to then signal another waitress after we’d finished our starters as we still had no water. We then had as many as 3 other waitresses and waiters come over on separate occasions to ask did we want any drinks - it got a little tiring. All in all I’ve had better experiences in Cote. The steak was just ok, the sauce a little thin & bland, and the fish goujons didn’t look freshly prepared, rather more reminiscent of a children’s meal. The staff were all very friendly and pleasant.
