Went here to celebrate my friend Hazel 80th birthday. It was a fantastic experience. Attentive staff, amazing food, the Xmas menu was excellent. Highly recommended
Wonderful lunch drinks company and staff thank you for a lovely birthday
On arrival to our table we were greeted by an lovely waiter called ‘Johnny’ he was so professional, helpful and thoughtful it was a delight to be served by him to begin with. It’s so refreshing so see such hard working, helpful staff in a lovely Restuarant. He advised us on all aspects of the menu and wine.
We had a lovely lunch really nice ...the food was good and the service likewise Just one thing We had three Sidecar cocktails that were supposed to be free but we were charged We did not notice actually to be fair ...the waiter noticed and amended the bill but did think that was not great
Very friendly staff and the food was absolutely spot on.
Our favourite place to have breakfast. Went there Saturday and, as always, excellent food quality, service and efficiency. All the staff are great but would particularly like to mention Jenni, her attention to detail is amazing and she always gives us such a warm welcome. Many thanks to all the staff.
Lovely family Sunday lunch, great service and very tasty food
A great dining experience, friendly staff and excellent food. Relaxed atmoshere, un-rushed so plenty of lively conversation between courses. Thank you Ben and your team for a brilliant evening!
The restaurant was busy but we were still served with a smile. Food was good as always
Delicious food with excellent service all for a reasonable price as always
It’s a good place to go for lunch. Good varied menu and quick service
Seated immediately and attended quickly. All staff friendly and helpful.
Excellent food and service. Made a very good impression on our family gathering.
As regulars of Cote we are always impressed with the consistently high standard. HOWEVER, we have noticed a decline in standards over the past few months. This reached a new low in our most recent visit where both my husband’s and my food was awful. My beetroot starter was thrown on the plate, looked messy, and was sickly sweet. My sea bass main on a bed of wilted spinach was terrible. The skin of the fish wet and soggy- not crisp as usual- and the ‘wilted’ spinach was completely raw and sat in an insipid pool of tepid salty liquid. My husband’s starter of roasted vegetables on puff pastry tasted and looked like something served in a hospital canteen. The gratin potatoes with his main were burnt on the outside and crunchy in the middle, with no hint of either cream, cheese or even butter. All in all the meal was abominable and either the chef was on strike or he was blindfolded for the night! Seriously questioning whether we want to return.
When we arrived they were very busy I think they had let our table go but they did find us one The waitress that brought out main course was in such a hurry to put the plates on the table and Literally rushed off the other waiter who had the food on a tray was still there and she was gone I wanted to ask a question and he had to call her back When we asked for the bill we were kept waiting by then the rush was over and in the end went up to bar to pay not a great experience for my friends 1st time to Newbury
Group of 11 - eating at a busy lunchtime. Really good service and lovely food.
very good food and very attentive service with a nice touch of humour. Worked very well for our party.
Friendly service, brilliant food and exceptional value for money. We liked the ambiance of the restaurant and will definitely return next time we are in Newbury.
As usual the food and service was very good and tasty.
Everything was wonderful and we had a lovely meal. The only disappointment was a too-long wait to get the bill. Thank you!
One of our favourite places to have breakfast and, as ever, service great and food delicious - cannot fault it.
The service was very good. I would only say that i find the ambience lacking and the fact that the tables are small and some of marble are cold. I think if cote realised that if they had tables with tablecloths or even paper linen table cloths so it looked more like a french experience it would enhance the overall effect.
Lovely welcoming front of house. Food was fresh and delicious, steaks cooked to perfection. Waiter a little busy but very polite
Absolutely the best food in town and good sized portions.
First time at the Newbury restaurant, but very impressed. Picked the restaurant out from all the competitors on the High street in Newbury, based on our experience in Chichester. Our guests were suitably impressed. One of our number had a disability but this did not lead to any problems.
As usual meal was delightful and staff courteous. Thank you
Delicious food and friendly service. The only down side was the long waiting for the starters. The sidecar complimentary drinks were just delicious.
I've always enjoyed Cote and tend to order the same main. Last night I thought I'd try the November special 'cassoulet'. 3 of us ordered it but unfortunately didn't enjoy it. The duck was ok but slightly tough, the beans were hard and the sausage was smoked and more like a frankfurter type than a toulouse sausage. I did mention to the waitress that the beans were hard and she was told by the kitchen they were supposed to be! I've had cassoulet many many times in France and unfortunately what we were served was not cassoulet. The smoked salmon starter was lovely as was the creme brulee. Shame not to of enjoyed the main dish. Service was very good and as we were out for a birthday the sidecar cocktail was a nice way to start.
Friendly service, attentive (but not too attentive) service and excellent food.
Always a good meal and great service . Thanks you .
Really good service. Food was good. Desserts took a long time to come though - think they got forgotten. Coffee was great and the waiter accommodated my request for hot water on the side.
Lovely meal and excellent service with friendly staff. Food very good, as always, especially the French onion soup.
Great variety of menus and fine foods. Had the evening 3 course and it did not disappoint. Great service and friendly staff. Well done
Food was exceptional, both the Premium and November Set Menu was a fantastic deal. Luka-Jai was a brilliant server that topped off the experience. Will definitely be returning soon!
Love Cote ...... but on this occasion, no greeting on arrival (though was noticed by 3 staff in reception area who promptly turned round and continued chatting amongst themselves). Then ventured into the restaurant, unaccompanied, to look for my table and came across my lunch companion also wandering around and who had been similarly ignored. This at 1pm in a less than half-full restaurant. Know you can do better!
Our main course took 30mins to arrive, time issue, left
There almost 2hours because service was so slow . Mentioned this to manager but she just commented they were extremely busy
Impeccable service, lovely food and a very nice ambiance, thanks.
I have found at your Newbury brasserie that getting your complimentary cocktail from the staff is hard work, although this is the only one I have this problem. Other than that the food was excellent as usual. The actual person who served us was very proficient and helpful.
As usual, a nice meal, good service and the sidecar cocktail was fantastic!
They never disappoint. We had lovely weekend mains. My favourite steak frites and my husband had the special burger with trimmings. Dishes we don't have at home so all the more enjoyable. Only downside I wish they had fever tree tonic with the gin! Friendly helpful staff too.
Superb food and service with a good atmosphere Highly recommend Thank you
Very good all round restaurant. Pleasant ambience, welcoming staff, efficient table service and a varied tasty menu. All good reasons for us to want to return.
Service was great and they made my mum really enjoy her birthday
Good food, friendly service, & complimentary bottle of wine well received . Disappointed that the Breton Fish Stew was not available , but informed that it will be back on the menu next month.
Newbury was ‘buzzing’ with half-term activity and the Cotes was busier than we have previously experienced; taking our orders took some time and our dishes finally arrived. The New November menu has a good selection. We were a party of five, one of our group required a gluten free menu, the order for which was taken personally by the manager - very impressive, so top marks for that. Unfortunately there was a mix up with one main dish of our order, which had to be re-presented. Not being in a hurry, this didn't create too much of an issue. We have visited this restaurant many times and this was a 'one-off' issue. Otherwise, every course was perfectly cooked and presented. I was impressed that this incident was re recognized by a reduction in the bill - not expected, but a very welcome touch. We will continue to frequent this restaurant and would recommend it as we considered the slight fall in standards a temporary blip.
Service was excellent, quick & very friendly, looking forward to coming back soon
Lovely atmosphere. Food came quickly. Waitress was lovely and efficient.
As usual friendly efficient staff and good food. Our party of 7 was one down AND late but they were still welcoming and friendly
Wonderful attentive service and delicious food for a late lunch. Thank you.
