Fantastic food and atmosphere as usual, staff were really great too and the service was spot on. When I visited last time I was seated upstairs but unfortunately it was closed off this time and the downstairs was a tad busy, However this will not put me off from visiting again.

Table we had booked was still taken upon our arrival of only 10 minutes earlier than my booking, however we were asked to wait at the bar and offered drinks. It's was a muggy day, so the French doors were open crewing a nice breeze. Food and service was excellent as always.

Went for a catch up meal with the girls and the atmosphere was just right - nice looking bar, not too bright, pleasant buzz..... Lots of menu choice and specials too. Main courses range from £10 - £15 and all seemed pretty good value for really nicely cooked and presented foods. Felt the starters a bit expensive but again, all nice. Been twice in recent months and will definitely return.

We had about 14 people for a meal before a wedding the next day. We had rung ahead about one guest who had special dietary needs and these were accommodated. The staff were friendly and the food was good to excellent with a nice range on offer. If you can get an Italian of senior years to trust a risotto with peas cooked in England then you are doing very well indeed. It was a leisurely evening and the service reflected that.

Food and service were excellent. I had the mint pea risotto which was lovely, followed by the chocolate brownie - also lovely but very rich (not for the faint hearted 😂) The waitresses were very attentive, and the food was served very quickly. Highly recommend.

This was a wedding present meal - we'd been given a voucher, which I informed the restaurant about and obviously hoped it might be a little more special. It wasn't. We were put at a table with no view, against the wall. The waitress was a nice enough girl, but desperately inexperienced and sort of bombarded us about whether we wanted a drink. We chose a bottle of wine which she literally plonked on the table in a chiller bucket, didn't open it, pour it or ask if it was ok. The food was nice, so no complaints and it wasn't an awful evening, but won't be going again, because despite informing them why we were there we were shoved in a really nothing part of the restaurant, when others who had obviously just popped out for something to eat, had the lovely views and nicer tables. There's so many places to go, so will choose else where in future. Shame because we'd looked forward to it.

Service a little chaotic initially but once one of the 5 people offering service narrowed down was good.Food good and dessert shone through, starter a little small and mains although tasty could have been a little better presented. Would go again.

Excellent food and service. Great location in centre of Nottingham, close to Castle. Good selection of beers and wines. Menu is quite diverse and gives a lot of options. Definitely gourmet bistro pub type environment. Thoroughly recommended. Our son enjoyed his 20th Birthday here with us.

Can't rate this restaurant enough, the food was absolutely amazing, the service was impeccable but relaxed, setting itself was obviously lovely - each course was beautifully presented & tasted as equally as good as the next - will be returning very soon! Thank you for a lovely evening

Great place, good choice of beer, good location to people watch & on the whole excellent food. The four main courses of steak, Burger, Chicken & Pork belly were all great. The only disappointment was when we asked for two bread & dip starters. I would have rated them six if they had delivered warm fresh bread rather than cold bread rolls that had did not break apart like it was fresh.

Great service, the food was very good, it was very busy on our arrival and we didn't get much attention for a while but it was understandable, the staff then more than made up for it for the rest of the evening. Didn't feel rushed in anyway we had the table from 7 pm until we left at 12.30am. Will definitely be back soon

Great food, was a little late with the main course, the desert was ordered wrong by the waitress but that was taken off the bill. Sloppy waiters service, gave us the bill be fore we asked for it, and taken our side dishes when we were still eating. Would go again with the quality of food.

Lovely service, table was ready even though we were 20 mins early! Lovely wine reccommendation, food was gorgeous and I tried things I wouldn't normally order, came out in good time at a good temperature too. Relaxed and cosy atmosphere and good value for money for the quality of food. Will definitely be back!

Food was mediocre at best but service was appalling. Menu was extremely limited, which was disappointing considering it was a bank holiday. We waited 15 minutes before being taken to our table, then had to wait another 15 minutes before being asked for drinks and then had to wait another 30 minutes before the drinks arrived. Staff came across very rude, and when they established that we did not want to see the desert menu, the lady literally threw the bill at us. Extremely disappointing and will not be returning.

An hour's wait between starter and main course. Three mains were inedible and went back to the kitchen. Shame as we had eaten there before.

The evening was perfect as there was a nice feeling around the resturaunt as people were sitting out enjoying an evening drink overlooking the castle and yet we were able to sit, relax and enjoy some great food and great service

Delicious Sunday roast, very poor service. Disappointingly dry and bland Bakewell tart. Advertised as served with stewed peaches, in reality they were tinned peaches. Wanted it to be great, and the Sunday roast was, rest was a disappointment.

We drove up from Exeter to take my wife's mother out to lunch and arrived on time. We were seated near the entrance door which was not deal as it is was quite cold and a draft blew every time the door was opened. We asked if it was possible to move to another table and was told that the restaurant was fully booked and that we could not be moved. We arrived at 12.35 and left 2 hours later and there was a table available to our left which was not occupied during this time. People who arrived after us ( I counted three groups) were all seated away from the entrance door. I asked again and was told that we could not be moved to another table. When we finished our main meal we were told that there was a table available if we would like to finish our drinks there. We said that as we had been at this table for a considerable length of time that we would remain. We asked to see the desert menu and waited for a further 15-20 minutes but no one came to take our order. I asked one of the waiters to let us have the bill. I explained that we had waited a long time and no one came to take our desert order. At no time were we given an update as to why the service was so slow. When I paid one of the waiter's said that there was a staffing shortage and apologised. What should have been an enjoyable family Sunday lunch was spoilt by firstly not listening to our reasonable request to be re-seated out of the cold and secondly forgetting to take our desert order. We chose Fothergills based on the reviews on the website and will not be visiting our recommending it to our family or friends. Please can you investigate why we were so badly let down.
