We found Maxies just wandering around, we were very impressed with the ambiance, staff welcoming and friendly, food amazing, so good we went twice during our weekend stay in Edinburgh, would definitely recommend and would visit again. View from the terrace amazing

Last minute booking and was suprised to get a table but when we arrived there was only one other table taken so we were a little worried. No need to worry staff were polite and efficient, food was excellent definitely be back.

My partners first time there and he loved it and enjoyed the steak xx

We were a bit squashed but Ewen our waitor was very good. The food was excellent .

We asked in our reservation for a table at the terrace, but on arrival we were told that such a reservation was not possible. We were lucky because a couple at a table on the terrace left when we arrived, but I would have liked to have known when reserving. The food was ok but not really good. And the owner of the place was not very nice to her guests. Too much interference, not quite hospitable.

Restaurant was too warm, needs air conditioning. Wife ordered fish and chips, they were the best she ever had. I had chicken stuffed with haggis, it was ok. Wife ordered hot toddie, and threw up about 5 times 4 hours later. Despite that, we enjoyed the restaurant. Service was slow.

Excellent value for money, great food and personable service. Attentive, friendly and helpful for gluten free. Definitely recommend.

Food and service good but would’ve thought with the prices charged that the venue would’ve been cleaner, very dated and dull looking. Had to request napkins.

Food is delicious and not overpriced despite the key location. The outside tables overlooking the grassmarket capture all the hubub and energy of the city. Great service.

We ordered Fish&chips (very well fried , no oil taste) and Rib-Eye Steak (very tender)....just great! For dessert Cheese cake , not bad but not my favourite.

Too cramped, do they have permission for that many tables we actually could not get into the first table it was physically impossible and it was too hot and stuffy

Pessimo. Si salva a malapena la terrazza, ma comunque squallida negli arredi e nella pulizia. Cibo scadente per i prezzi richesti. Da evitare!

One in our party suffered food poisoning from eating the muscles and pasta dish. Ruined our evening at the Tattoo.

Bel locale e buona cucina....prezzo onesto....meglio consumare in terrazza perché più fresca

Lovely food, accommodating chef as wife can’t have cream so changed the sauce her seafood was cooked in. Would recommend booking as was very busy. Not rushed by staff even though they were busy and could’ve used our table.

Great food and service even though it was prom tourist time with the tattoo about to start. Will definitely be back.

I read some negative reviews about this place but to be honest, I think the staff were very polite, the food wasn’t bad if a little pricey but that’s due to the location. The actual restaurant is a little quirky but I really liked that. Would recommend

Very disappointed - we would not visit the restaurant again.

Must have been a new server, wasn’t aware of options and not informed on food prep. Took long time to get drinks and garlic cheese bread came well after dinner served, just not a good experience.

The food was fine, but nothing special. The service was very slow. The bar kept our waiter away and the one other girl was stretched thin

The staff were welcoming and friendly, but to the point, and not really chatty when ordering. For example, I didn't think on to order veg with my main course, and they didn't think to say, would you like some greens with that. When settling the bill, they stood over us as the put the bill down, and didn't give us space to check the bill, or to privately discuss what level of tip we'd add on.

The seafood platter was amazing as was the sauce. The seafood was in. Also the fries were unusual but delicious I will definitely return
