The pre theatre menu has made the same for too long, time for a change? Also, renovation needed in the restaurant and toilets. Food still nice.

Great pre-theatre menu which is good value for money. Gluten free menu reads like a real menu so our coeliac daughter doesn't feel like a nuisance. All food was delicious. Nice, comfortable environment. Staff are very efficient.

Brilliant food and a great atmosphere. We all had a fantastic night. Excellent choice across the main menu but also a comprehensive vegan menu that allowed 2 of our party to enjoy a wide variety of dishes, rather than the usual stilted offerings. Thanks very much.

Great menu, excellent service, would definitely recommend this restaurant. Decor and setting were very pleasant as were the staff. The trio of Scottish bon bons was superb.

Food was excellent, great atmosphere and the staff were lovely. All around a great night. Only (slight!) issue was despite putting it on my reservation and the restaurant catering very well for coeliacs (one of the reasons we were there), we still had to explain our requirements for our orders and this wasn't then picked up on our dessert order, one of which had to go back for a quick replacement due to a wafer issue. Still would recommend to anyone though, and will very likely be back!

lunch menu had plenty of choice and was fantastic value for money. The food tasted delicious and portions were very generous. Staff were delightful.. One of our table was running 30 minutes late but we were never harassed or made to feel uncomfortable. I would highly recommend restaurant, especially for lunch/pre theatre.

Really good food and great service at great price. Particularly pleased to see gluten and dairy free menus provided, nothing was too much trouble for this team. Will be back soon!

While the food and staff were lovely, the dinning experience itself could be improved. The decor is very outdated, the chairs are ripped and the tables could do with being covered with table clothes (or being replaced alltogether, to be honest). The whole atmosphere is not very inviting. We were in and out within an hour, which is a shame as the food per se was really nice!

Overall I enjoyed my visit, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The meal was great value for money however I did not enjoy my steak - not sure of the cut but wouldn't recommend that. The vegan menu had very good variety and the portion sizes were good.

Delicious food, relaxing environment and welcoming staff, for our family of 5, with 3 teenagers. We were offered the Pre-Theatre Menu even though it was 7.30pm on a Friday evening. A memorable occasion, hopefully to be repeated in the not too distant future.

Excellent food and service. The crispy seafood starter was feather light and the monkfish curry delicious. We were extremely well looked after by the staff and the Chilean Chardonnay went down a treat.

Delicious meal beautifully presented by helpful and knowledgable staff. Looking forward to returning to Red Onion. The monkfish Lena was excellent and my husband loved the sea bass. Starters were super top. Did not have dessserts abs in fact we were not offered any - must have read our minds as we did it have enough room left for dessert

Nostalgia was the driver for the return visit - but that won't happen again. The visit overall was very disappointing and the following will give a flavour of the most unsatisfactory points:- From memory the seats at the window are always cold - and my memory served me well. To order one type of risotto and be presented with something completely different - because "there are too many menus and the waitress got confused" - was not a good start. Then to wait 55 minutes to order and receive a dessert (a mediocre brownie and ice cream) is completely unacceptable. The service provided by 3 members of staff was inadequate - particularly as the restaurant was not busy. We visited (prior to a theatre) as it was a special wedding anniversary - and although adjustments were made to the bill to compensate for the poor service - it did mar what was otherwise a special occasion.

This was our first time at Red Onion and did not know what to expect. Its an amazing place and well worth walking that little bit further from other restaurants close to the Concert Hall. The service was great, the ambience just right, the food first class and even though it did start to fill up with other diners very quickly the staff remained calm and professional. We look forward to our next visit to Glasgow and will definitely return to Red Onion without hesitation.

Excellent food and service as always. The best vegan food in Glasgow, made from real ingredients and not the usual processed junk and fake meat. Will be back again...and again!

Booked the pre theatre meal. There was a good variety of starters, mains and desserts. My daughter and I had steak and both were cooked exactly as we requested. Service was very efficient and staff friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be returning. Very good value for money.

Second time I went and it was amazing! I am vegan so it's always a bit tricky to find something really delicious but Red Onion never disappoints! My mum came to visit Glasgow for the first time and she loved it so much she had 3 courses! That never happens! We will definitely be back.

This was my fifth visit to The Red Onion - previously, once as a work lunchtime outing and three times with my partner and other couples. As always, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. On this occasion we took my partner's parents as part of a Christmas outing to the theatre and they were extremely impressed with the venue and loved their menu choices. It is very refreshing to enjoy good food in such nice surroundings while being looked after by attentive and efficient staff and to be charged a reasonable tariff. We all agreed that dinner for four (2x3 courses and 2x2 courses), including a bottle of wine and soft drinks for under a hundred pounds in a quality, city centre restaurant was impeccable value - and we got parked at the door. Looking forward to our next visit soon.

As always red onion never disappoints. The hardest part of our visit was choosing which options to go for and the enevitable food envy when you see everything arrive. My tip would be visit with someone who likes to share and then you can have a taste of theirs too 😉.

Great service, great food and great atmosphere. The freshness can be tasted in every bite and wonderfully complemented by the most delightful sauces. The only thing stopping this being a 6 and not exclusive to this restaurant is the need to serve soft drinks in 200ml bottles at a very substantial mark up! Not a major issue and understand staff costs, running costs etc are added to this but ordering 2 in the one go (I like a pint) just double the price to £4+ for 400ml! Great restaurant with a great reputation but draught coke surely wouldn't damage this.

One of my regular haunts. The standard of food and service from staff is always consistent top class. A fail safe option for a quick lunch with colleagues, a quick pre-theatre with friends or a lingering lunch or dinner as a wee treat. What makes this place special is the owner and chefs willingness to not only accommodate but positively cater four for differing food requirements e.g. Coeliac, vegan and a wide variety of allergies. Delightful!

Good was good but glasses scratched by dishwasher, black plates which mains were served on we chipped round edges and cheap paper napkins. Also space in booth we were placed at was so tight it was uncomfortable. So good good wasted by lack of attention to detail!

We really enjoyed our meal at the Red Onion. Great choice on the menu. All three courses were all we could have asked for. I normally only ever have two courses, but decided to have three, as did my two friends, and we were glad that we did. The staff were very attentive without being intrusive. Great value for money and each of us would be happy to recommend the Red Onion to friends and family and would visit again. Cannot really think of anything negative to say about the food or service. The only criticism would be that the tired toilets let it down. Definately not the same standard as the food.
