Friendly welcome but slow and shambolic service afterwards. Tandoori was good and no nasty artificial colouring. The vegetarian dish contained few veg and too much sauce.

Food beautiful, fresh and tasty as ever at the Shezan, each diner had something different and everyone was really complimentary of the taste, presentation and variety. I had chicken dansak, beautifully marinated chunks of chicken coloured through with the marinate and flavour, tarka dal was great and sag paneer was tasty but the spinach could have had more body to it, it was a bot gloopy, nan was a little dry and crispy but ok but all the flavours together are wonderful. The one thing that let the experience down was the service, it was a little chaotic and slow, even although when we arrived there was only one more table of diners in. Service to table was quick, a nice brightly light table by the window, however for 5 adult diners the table was small and we had to do a lot of adjusting of cutlery etc to all get a placing right. 3 of us were sitting at the booth/couch side and the end closest to the window is either broken or about to break, every time the diner at the end moved the whole booth dipped and caved, please get that mended as it will only be a matter of time before it does break and a diner is injured or lands on the floor. 3 attempts to ask for a jug of Edinburgh's finest tap water and glasses before they arrived towards the end of the meal and after our paid for drinks were drank, we got the impression they wanted rid of us soon after we had eaten as the table was cleared really quickly, we weren't offered coffee or desert but then spent the best part of 10 minutes trying to get the attention of the waiter to pay the bill. However very reasonable cost at about £18 per diner including drinks, main, 2 rice, 2 sides and 2 nan. We understand it's the middle of the festival and there was a show on at the Playhouse opposite that we were going to but these wee niggles in a restaurant that consistently turns out truly excellent, tasty affordable food drops point at review time. Would definitely recommend for the amazing food, staff are pleasant but just not firing on all cylinders yesterday.

Staff helpful and attentive. Food good and acceptable quantity. Peshwari Naan bread was on large side and a bit sweet . No hot plates provided so food had to be eaten quicker than liked to avoid going cold. Overall a good choice.

We were told to try out at least one Indian restaurant while in Edinburgh, and Shezan filled the need. We loved the spicy naan (hard to find that in the Baltimore area), and the spices on the main courses were truly medium. We'll recommend to anyone looking for Indian dining in Edinburgh.

The restaurant is fantastic and great overall layout . We like to always have a good laugh when we are out and the waitress loved our joking banter which made our evening thanks Sara for putting up with us ... You were awesome efficient , and reliable at all times not to mention one of the most beautiful natural women I have seen in my life ..:) The other Waiters we are all top and the food was at the highest standard . Great taste and correct amount of spices eaten as one of my friends love his food always hot and they accommodated this. My other friend who is Indian loved the food also which is always a great sign . She reinforced the fact that the food is more authentic than any restaurant she has ever been . Overall worthy of a 5 star rating in all accounts ... But think the overall fantastic gorgeous smile of Sara reinforced this . We will be back in near future . Best regards to all restaurant staff . Incredible sublime standards :) *****

Best Indian food in Edinburgh, in our opinion. Sag paneer, dhal and Punjabi chicken tikka particularly good. The takeaway delivery radius is a little too small, but that´s all.

Fantastic freshly cooked Indian authentic food, however the customer service needs a good bit of improving so make it a truly excellent experience. Never asked once whether we were enjoying the meal or any interaction at all with the serving staff. It costs nothing to be pleasant and really a good restaurant should have good staff who can provide a good customer experience - some training in communication skills required.

Normally the food here is excellent but on this visit to Shezan the food was not up to their usual standard. I found the pakora rather undercooked in the centre and not as crispy as it should be. It was also served with only a minty-flavoured yoghurt, whereas I prefer a choice of this and a chilli-based sauce as accompaniments. My chicken dhansak was very good but my partner found his Ceylonese chicken was far too sweet - the sauce contained grapes - so it was not at all spicy. The plain nan was also not up to their usual standard. While the service in Shezan is always good and prompt they do need to do something drastic about the ladies toilets! It's impossible to lock the door on the farthest away toilet cubicle as the lock slider does not engage the door - it has been like this since at least last summer, so it's extremely disappointing this hasn't yet been fixed. These toilets generally need some attention and upgrading - this alone surprises me that they do so well in the Curry Awards.

We went on a Saturday evening and it was full of people having a pre-theatre meal. This meant the service was a little slow and we didn't actually get offered a dessert. The food was fantastic though and the waiter was very helpful in checking dishes for nuts as I have an allergy.

We had a lovely meal here, the service was a bit slow at some points and we waited quite a while for our main courses but they were quite busy and the music randomly got very loud at some points. But all in all a lovely meal and would recommend to others. Great pre theatre menu as well with a good price to match.

We were the first customers when this restaurant opened. We explained to the waitress, who called the manager Shahid. He explained that it was 30 years ago and, unbelievably, was still in the same family. Great food, excellent service in a well decorated and pleasant atmosphere. A fine dining experience.
