Sokrates Taverna - Horwich

First time at Sokrates Taverna and we had the meze which seemed a great way to trial the different types of food on offer. It was busy as you would expect for a Saturday night but many tables were enjoying the meze which you would assume would make things run smoothly and at a nice pace however, we didn't find that to be the case. When our meze began we suddenly got five dishes in one go and on a small table for two it was a little cramped! Luckily this slowed down but became the opposite when we waited quite sometime to be given dishes. The food was AMAZING and delicious but no one person seemed to be serving our table and so this led to what seemed slow service and confusion as to what we had or hadn't been given (looking at the menu on return home we 'missed' a couple of dishes) - even we became confused! At the end of our meal we wanted dessert and we watched two large group tables be asked and served dessert and coffee before we were even able to grab a member of staff to ask for a dessert menu. It took us 25 minutes and for such a small place this is saying something! Honestly, the food was worth going to the restaurant and may be we just picked a particularly chaotic night for service. The food was good enough we would consider trying again....fingers crossed the service and chaotic serving style was just a one off!

Went for my friend’s birthday, just a small part of seven, food was delicious staff warm and welcoming from start to finish they couldn’t do enough, was just like being back in Corfu apart from it being freezing outside, will not wait as long to visit again

Going in i was alittle bit scared due to never actually having greek food. But i defiantly wanted to have a new experience with my gf. We had the Meze – Greek Banquet and i was so suprised! every taste was something new and i most defiantly don't regret it. Thank you for the unique taste bud explosion!

Very busy night in the restaurant, several large parties. The staff were excellent, serving us with fine food and good humour. Quando booking system worked well.

Fantastic communication from reservation to dining. Staff team all friendly and welcoming. Warm reception. Professional and friendly wait team. Helped with allergy information and were able to cater for dietary needs. Very comfortable yet opulent surroundings great environment relaxed yet full tables. Clearly a popular restaraunt. Menu catered for all tastes Greek. Reasonably priced and good value and quality meals and appetisers. Chefs thank you for the quality, flavoursome and enjoyable meals you prepared and cooked. Drinks menu again varied with traditional beverages on offer. Was able to pay with ease and on leavingthe restaraunt we were given a warm good bye from majority of the staff team. Definitely recommend Sokrates Greek Taverna @ Horwich Look forward to visiting again.

You gotta eat here :-) we have had yet another fantastic night, its always a great atmosphere, and with great hosts, lovely little taverna. Will definitely be back before Christmas.

The Meze is amazing such great value, my friends had options off the menu and the portions were huge and they were more than happy with everything they chose. Will be back

A good location in Horwich with plenty car parking available close by. Really tasty, nicely presented, quality food with attentive staff. Will return very soon.

This was our second visit and we took some friends. We sampled the meatballs, souvlakia and kleftiko for starters and our main courses. Typical greek restaurant the food didn't arrive at the same time but it was hot and delicious. Would definitely recommend Sokrates for a traditional greek night out

The food quality was excellent, and very reasonably priced. We went for the greek meze, each dish was brought out pretty quickly, there wasn't much of a wait between each. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Lovely place, will be back again

Great food , restaurant and staff... Will definitely be going again. We had the special menu which is great value for the money...the Greek cheesecake with honey and pistachio was to die for...well worth a visit

Lovely food which we enjoyed very much. Just a little too busy for us so we will go earlier on our next visit. We went at 7pm

This was our first time at Sokrates, we were made to feel very welcome with attentive service through out the night. The food was as we hoped a real Greek experience with fantastic flavors. Looking forward to another visit very soon.

Fantastic from start to finish, service was great, nothing was too much trouble, we were made to feel welcome. The food was excellent, mixed meal we've had in a long time!!!

Great food, service excellent and friendly. Lovely place that always reminds me a bit of being on holiday. Prices are reasonable, and there's plenty of choice. The mezze is excellent for those that can't decide so you can try a little of everything.

Upon arrival, we were shown to our table which was situated in a small area, separate from the rest of the restaurant, adjacent to the ladies' toilets. When we complained, we were offered an alternative which was acceptable however, we had to move our own cutlery, serviette and drinks. The Mythos was warm. Apart from these factors, our meal was enjoyable.

Great food and great atmosphere! The one is Sale is just as brilliant. Staff are very friendly and the Kleftico was delicious (might need to request this 24 hours in advance during busy periods).

Quiet place, amazing authentic Greek food and excellent service. Well worth a visit to try the chefs menu. Worth ringing before to see what's on the menu as some special dishes have a long prep time.

Great food and service - will definitely return again. Have the tapas - the tomato Aubergine dish is amazing. Needs a bit more ambience in the restaurant

Had a lovely meal with the family at Sokrates.All genuine Greek food the chef is Greek.Its a homely setting nothing fancy.But if you like stuffed vine leaves or meze it's the place for you !

This was our first time at Socrates and we visit some excellent Greek restaurants quite regular so it had a lot to live up to. The food was good and the staff friendly, the decor is very dated with a blend of odd colours, however this strangely gives it the feel of a traditional Greek taverna so don't let that put you off. For a Saturday night I would have liked a bit more atmosphere so will maybe try on the Thursday night once a months with live music & dancing. In any case we will definitely visit Socrates again.

Brilliant food and great service. Well worth a visit. Great atmosphere. Parking easy. Greek meze is the best choice. Multiple dished served after just the right amount of time between courses. Greek music nights on the last Thursday in each month. Will go again

The restaurant has a great atmosphere. Despite being extremely busy staff were great and the service was swift. If anything that could be the only criticism, We went quite early but the place was full and there were lots of people waiting when we left. {of course we can appreciate that some people just like to eat and go}. It is along time since we had visited Sokrates in Horwich but we will definitely put it on our favourites list. There only one thing left to say the food was excellent. Yamas.

The food was Really good and the service was friendly. It wasn't that expensive and it is somewhere we would definitely go back to visit.

Amazing. I love this restaurant..wish I could go more and have never yet made it to a party night..I will one day! The chef is just fantastic and is regularly "on the floor"..all the front of house staff are lovely.

Beautiful food as usual..... the meze is amazing.... have to have the meze because i can never choose from all the beautiful dishes. Cant wait for next time

A brilliant evening at Sokrates Horwich last night with 3 friends for my birthday meal. The service was good, the atmosphere good and the food was delicious! All 4 of us enjoyed our choices and can't wait to go again

Very impressed, the staff were excellant explaining each course and flavours. The Restaurant itself had that 'cosy' feel and I felt a regular even though we had never been before.

We had been to this restaurant before. We had an excellent time, the restaurant had a great atmosphere and the food was excellent. The prices were reasonable also. Will come again.

We got there a little early but wasn't a problem, lady who served us was lovely the food was fabulous and value for money would definitely be coming back!

The 4 of us had a lovely traditional Greek meal with wine. More food than we could eat - might have ordered too much! The bill came to £80 which was amazing value. Our friends go to Greece twice a year and thought it was more authentic than some of the islands! On a Tuesday night the restaurant was nearly full so recommend you book. Will definitely be going again, Iain

We went to this restaurant based on hearing friends reviews about it on Facebook and thought we would give it a try. Lovely meal would highly recommend food delicious :-)

Over all the meal was good service was very good, the only thing our meal was booked for six and the doors didn't open till 6.05. There was a lot of people standing waiting outside.
