Nice staff and atmosphere was okay Food was average, not amazing for example slow cooked beef was very fatty, choc brownie dry. Think they're better doing pub grub than restaurant food
Great, great food, delicious in fact, but very loud and buzzing on a Saturday night. I would visit again, but perhaps not with my folks.
Booked a table in the dining room on a Sat night for my family. So loud could barely hear eachother, not suitable for dining, my 60 year old mother didnt appreciate Major Lazor blasting into her ear while she ate. Food nice, but cold.
Good service and nice food although the fish goujon wrap was pretty small. It was described as a 'fish cigar' by my friend who had a delicious looking and huge New York sandwich! There could have been more substance to it considering the price
Generally a good experience. Quite noisy and table service was unpredictable - we were checked a dozen times to see what we wanted to drink and then left alone a little too long when the third guest arrived: can't win them all. I'd still go back again thought
It was easy to book a table online. There was a small but Good selection of food which was nicely presented and yummy. Good atmosphere. The service was friendly.
Very kind attention to us; we always felt welcome by the front of house and well served at all times. The steaks were good too!
Amazing service and lovely food! You should give this resturant a go!
The Avalon is a great pub, fab food with friendly and helpful staff. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and we will definitely be back soon.
Very nice place! The food is good and the waiters are very kind. We have choosen this restaurant as it is a family pub and we can confirmed that the children are very well-welcomed. The booking via quandoo worked very well, our table was booked appropriately according to our requests (pub space in sofa!).
We visited for my fiance's birthday with 4 other friends and we all enjoyed it! Great food, fun quiz and nice staff. I especially recommend pizzas, they are exquisite.
The Avalon is what a good pub should be which is q greta place to sit, relax and spend time with friends. Good beer, decent food, dog friendly, engaging & friendly staff, great outdoor space.
We enjoyed a very pleasant evening at The Avalon. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food, however, was a bit "hit and miss". We'll be back if we're in the neighbourhood again.
It's a very good quiz. We normally do it in the regent in Balham but go to the Avalon on a Sunday sometimes. Nice pub. Bit too expensive though
All good generally. They missed off my food order though and I was the first to order at a large table and then they were out of what I wanted so that was disappointing! But otherwise a v. nice night and fun. The staff were friendly and accommodating.
There was a very good selection of beers and excellent quiz which we won! Food looks nice too although we didn't eat. A good pub
We went for Birthday lunch and enjoyed good food and attentive staff, divine desserts and excellent coffee Great decor but cold day so couldn't eat in the garden. Highly recommended
Great atmosphere, nice menu choices, good staff. A really great pub. Just a shame my food was a little on the lukewarm side, and my duck was overcooked!
Had a really lovely evening had been once before on a Sunday , staff all friendly. Table was ready. Food was really Great. Atmosphere was lively. Would definitely go back.
Nice big pub with a more formal restaurant at the back. They were showing the rugby the day I visited so it was very busy, with tables filled by 1:30pm. So, book in advance! The food was nice and the drinks were good, but very pricey. Overall it was nice but I won;t rush back.
The food was delicious and service was very friendly. We ordered the braised beef and beef and ale pie (from the specials board)...Please add the pie to your menu, it was amazing! We will be back for sure. It was a perfect dinner for a special occasion. Thank you!
Friendly attentive staff as always, food was tasty and well presented. A little disappointed on our visit this time there were quite a number of items not available on the menu, but I'm sure this was out of their control, as we've never experienced this before.
service was excellent and it was a really buzzy atmosphere. But the food was a bit of a let down, both mains were so salty it stung our mouths and in general thought it was overpriced. Wouldn't come back for dinner here.
We had a lovely meal for mother's day. The service was excellent and the food was great. Our kids loved their meals too and the portion sizes were just right. I look fowrard to coming back. Thank you.
Lovely food, nice wine and good service. But they start pumping dance music into the restaurant area at about 10pm, which felt a little unnecessary!
Beautiful interior of the restaurant but some of the food wasn't as great as hoped. Would go back though. Staff very friendly and nice atmosphere.
The best local! I go to Avalon almost every weekend to grab a bloody mary, a fantastic roast and catch the rugby. It's always lively and an enjoyable time!
This restaurant is very noisy! It's enclosed in a high ceiling room which seems to amplify the sound. If you go on a Friday or Saturday night it is even worse as they have a lively music filled bar. We went on a Saturday night and had to shout across the table to one another to be heard. The food was good, not great. The wine list was good, plenty of choice. Service was a little over stretched but friendly.
Decent enough food but no mention of a restricted menu on the weekend, no mention of a separate bar & restaraunt area (which makes a difference apparently) and no mention of a 2 hour time limit on tables.
Good food, great wine list and drinks menu, lovely friendly service if a little slow at times. Gorgeous dining room. What a gastropub should be, highly recommended
Great food as always with attentive service. Always reasonable priced with lots to choose from on the menu, plus the added daily specials. I love the fact they always look after my dog, with a bowl of water and treats on the table, before I even have a glass of wine in my hand.
Great menu and venue and the food was absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend especially on a weeknight when one can use a tastecard and receive 50% Discount off the food bill.
Nice evening, great beef pie and steaks. I'd recommend this.
Really disappointing. What's happened to the Avalon 😔 We took our friends as we'd previously had a great Sunday lunch there but were left embarrassed. Service was dire & food very average. Won't be going back.
The pizza's at the Avalon are amazing. The service at the Avalon is always consistent, friendly and efficient. The place has a great atmosphere and one of the best pub gardens in South West London for the warmer months, plus they're dog friendly throughout the whole place.
Wonderful food. Sunday Lunch, Valentines and Footie on TV, so it was V busy... A slight delay before puds came, but still the best steak in Souff London.
Great food, good atmosphere, can be a little too noisy in the restaurant. We were sat under a speaker so couldn't avoid it and the restaurant was full.
Lovely restaurant, first time here. My mum recommended coming as she'd been a few times with friends. Staff are really nice and friendly, atmosphere great and our food was great too, will definitely come again.
Delicious food. Great service. Good choice of meals and wine. It is noisy though especially on weekends as close to the bar. Otherwise top choice.
The service was particularly poor and very slow, didn't leave happy at all.
Lovely food, very good service. One of the best places to eat in Balham
Cold food, sent back, re fried...... Not good. Everything looked like it had been sat under the lamps for a good while and lacked taste and seemed out of proportion. Fish & chips for example came with the tiniest side of mushy peas and a massive amount of cold chips. Clumsy and ugly. Looked like it was thrown on the plate. Seems to be some serious problems in the kitchen. We were not the only ones sending food back. Excellent waiting staff but they were racing around trying to cope with the issues and serve people. Far to many customers to handle with the problems.
Good food, friendly service, nice atmosphere for family - they accommodated our 2-year old without problems. Only downside was that it took 10 mins to get coffee and pay the bill.
Class service and great vibes. Food lovely and drinks good. Only problem was price. Could be cheaper and more options on the menu. Better starters.
Always a good party vibe at the Avalon and we're big fans of the place. But sometimes the food can be hit and miss and this time the steak wasn't a good cut of beef and was a bit tough. The restaurant was a bit busy when we got there but service could have been better - sat there for 20mins+ before someone asked if we wanted a drink... Stuff happens but this wasn't one of their better nights.
Food and wine were great as always but service was a little slow; we constantly had to call a member of staff over to take orders, supply steak knives, provide pudding menus etc.
We really enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere at the Avalon, however the service was really slow. We decided on just mains, two medium fillet steaks and a jug of water but waited 25mins for them to come out. They werent even that busy. But aside this, we look forward going back again soon.
Very friendly service and with food 50% off it was good value too. We took advantage of the offer and both had The fillet steak. It was good, not great.
We love the Avalon. It's a great local pub for the whole family, (including the dog!) The food is excellent as are the wine choices.
I have eaten at the Avalon about 12 times over the past 2 years. However this time was disappointing. Tasteless carrot soup, and overcooked long grain white rice being served as the Risotto dish, instead of Arborio or Carnaroli rice. On sending the risotto back the server explained the Chef also agreed long grain rice had been used, with no explanation why! Secondly we had to as 3 times for our drinks to arrive and the service was far from attentive. The bar was busy, however the restaurant was the most empty I had seen it in 2 years. My final dish was fantastic, and yes my main course was removed from the bill - however it was overall a disappointing experience.
