Our server was super kind and friendly! Not sure what his name was but he was the one greeting people downstairs at the bar and bringing them upstairs for food!

The service was terrible. Steak was great but steamed brill was cold. What was anticipated as a good night very quickly became a disappointment. Never again.

Sunday roast of beef excellent and very good value at £10.95. Very good value as starter and desert only £1.50 each when having the roast.

Had an amazing time. Only let down was the main I wanted (ravioli) was unavoidable as was the pudding my partner wanted. Starters were perfect as were the mains, however, they could have done with being a tad hotter. Overall thought, an amazing meal and we’ll definitely return

It was a shame that 4 of the 6 beers on offer were off so only one choice of ale or lager. My steak was overdone My mums carrots were raw Menu felt like it was trying a bit too hard

Went on what I would assume to be a fairly quiet mid-week night, so there was no "hustle and bustle" but the menu was a fantastic mix of traditional dishes with local twists and the service was fantastic. Will most certainly return and would most definitely recommend for great quality food.

The sticky ribs weren't available as a starter (we ordered them and then were told after 5 minutes that they had sold out that afternoon) and as this was the only starter we wanted, we had to go without. In all we waited around 40 minutes for the mains (restaurant wasn't busy). Saying that the steaks were delicious. We will be returning as we really want to sample the ribs! Staff & manager were very welcoming and efficient.

Interesting menu. Meals well presented. Had we known the size of the meal it would have been good to order a side dish too. The Rhubarb desert with meringue was rather dry.

Visited last weekend with family who had come to visit. The butcher and tonic did not disappoint! We were served promotly and taken to our table and were given gin recommendations, which was a nice touch. The food was delicious and served quickly. We will definitely be returning again! Thank you.

Booked here based on reviews but reality did not meet expectation. DRINKS: Had a Gin cocktail which was infused...this meant herbs frozen in an ice cube which even after 20 mins did not melt in drink, tried to squeeze a lemon wedge but all 3 frozen too. Friend had a Guinness from can which is fine but when arrived the whole glass was covered in bubbles and it tasted off - possible some dirt or rinse aid left in glass I would think. I drink Guinness more than anything else, Draught or Original and even warm from a can does not look like that. FOOD: Meal of Leek starter my friend said so small looked like Asparagus and was very under done despite one side blackened, I like al dente but this was more raw. Gave up after one and spent 10 mins pulling raw leek out of my teeth. Friend had pate which looked okay. Main meal I went with Chicken Kebabs and salad as mentioned on review, good chunks of chicken but bland and again veg was under cooked. Only rescue of some flavour was to cover in the sauce which was nice, had a bit of heat to it so glad I can tolerate it. Friend had the Chicken Supreme, said chicken good but the veg was like a frozen bag of rice with peas and sweetcorn heated. Lack of atmosphere too, big open blank space which felt a little like a dining hall at a school. To be fair we were early and so only a few diners in, for me it is more of a daytime place. When asked about meal by the person at the bar when we went to pay I was honest and they did offer to remove the leeks and Guinness but to be honest we just wanted to leave at this point. Sadly not the fun catch up with wine flowing over food as planned.

Awesome restaurant, awesome setting, we had great fun and the service was wonderful. I haven’t given it full stars because despite the seafood being top, the meat was overdone. Other than that we had a fantastic time.

Fabulous quality food /meats - something a bit different to the usual offering - great staff with just the right level of attentiveness. We went mid week and it was really quiet which was a shame but I understand there are some great deals to entice people in like 3 courses and 3 gins for £25!! What’s not to like !

Unspoilt old room with plenty of atmosphere. Staff are very accommodating to requests and ‘tweaks’ though a little bit slow at times. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. Loved the menu, something different for a change. All food prepared perfectly and desserts were amazing and presented with an obviously great level of expertise. Prices good and if you’re there on a mid week deal then brilliant. Overall a fantastic night that I will recommend.

Lots to like but there are lots to improve upon. Staff were wonderful but incredibly young and, as such, a little inexperienced. The menu is relatively limited but very broad. So 3 starters and 2 mains being unavailable at 7.30pm was REALLY disappointing. When they came the dishes were lovely but the mains came without sides. None of the staff recommended ordered sides. The desert was absolutely beautiful. Overall, not amazing, but it so could have been...

Excellent service and very welcoming, the staff could not have been more helpful, we had the three course menu including three Gin and Tonic and you got a great choice. The food was great and plenty as we could not eat all the pud. The price was great value for your money, I will be coming back soon. I will tell all my friends too. All in all a great experience.

A super meal with the friendliest service. The 3 courses and 3 gins is a cracking idea and such excellent value. The assiette of apple starter is clever and the marrow bone is different. Having a sirloin available in the deal is good and it was a fine piece of meat...homemade chips were grand. The cauliflower heart main was another novel piece my wife enjoyed. Sweets were masterpieces...both the deconstructed crumble and the gingerbread were up there with any sweet, anywhere.

Good atmosphere and service. Had Sunday roast which was good value at £10.95 as any starter off al carte menu was only £1.50. Quantities of main course and starter could have been bigger but food was generally tasty and well cooked

A pleasant evening out. Food and service were both good, but not exceptional. The oxtail ragu was the star of the show and there is an impressive selection of gins.

Very disappointed Lovely ambience Good looking menu But oh! Had to wait an hour for food and it wasn’t busy Inedible steak Luckily not charged and waiters were great We’re not fussy people just want honest good food Butcher and tonic could be on the map but the product and service need to improve Will give it another try when I’ve got over the disappointment
