Food was excellent. Lovely warm, comfortable setting on a horrible night. However, staff could have been more knowledgeable about drinks, particularly gin selection. At times the service was overly officious and even felt that staff were passive aggressive in their approach - not the previous experience at the Mustard Seed. Maybe a bad night but didn’t feel that staff were happy in their work 🤔
We visited the Mustard Seed on our honeymoon trip to Scotland and had an excellent experience! The food, service, and atmosphere were wonderful. We do highly recommend making a reservation in advance to ensure you get a table!
Really enjoyed our lunch. It was good value for money
First visit for me. Loved it. Staff lovely and super attentive. Will definitely book again and recommend to all our friends. Thank you
10 out of 10, best meal in a long time
Had early evening menu and hummus starter was average. Steak was fatty, gristly and inedible
Starters were delicious, but didn't feel the mains were as good as on previous visits. My first taste of the seabass had a bone in it, my husband found his pork had a lot of fat on it.
Wonderful atmosphere, food, ambience and exceptional service. First time visit and certainly won't be the last! Can't wait to return, well done and thank you. Would advise booking in advance.
Having been many times over the past 20 years, I can only describe as very disappointing and not as expected. We had a disappointing experience in January but wrote it off as an off day, we all have them! Today surpassed that disappointment, really poor and disappointing experience, firstly the place was dusty and in need of a proper clean. Waitress was lovely and really polite and attentive, we ordered food and wine, wine was ok, food not so, starters passable but probs not something we would order again, mains were really poor, small piece of sea bass with inedible couscous and a 28 day matured steak which was as tough and chewy as an old pair of walking boots with accompanying poor reheated potatoes, would normally persevere but couldn't get past the first couple of bits, really disappointed. This is somewhere we would normally recommend, not sure what's gone wrong but the Mustard Seed has changed and we can no longer recommend this local Inverness restaurant. This experience was on gift vouchers from a friend hoping we would have a special meal/experience, we didn't :-(
Had a lovely meal with excellent food. Only criticism was that where we were sitting meant we were cold until the door was finally closed.
Brilliant food and service A++++ will be booking again soon
The staff are very attentive and polite. Greeted and seated as I had a booking - ahead of those without. I booked on Monday for this Friday. There was limited availability for a Friday evening- 15:30, 17:30 or 21:30. I opted for the early evening slot of 17:30. It then surprised me to see at least four walk-in’s offered tables with no hesitation- especially with the limited availability option for pre-booking . I was seated downstairs but next to a table housing 13 who arrived for 18:00. This meant I knew it would become noisy. l found it not very polite of the guests to be using my table to manoeuvre themselves onto their table as I was eating. Anyway… back to the food. On arrival at my table I was immediately presented with a food, drink and cocktail menu. The young lady who served me was very polite attentive and I advised her of my food allergy. Almost all meals can be made gluten free . Great. I ordered a glass of wine and water which was only a couple of minutes getting to me. The mussels as the starter came very quickly- a huge bowl full. Fresh in the creamy garlicky sauce. Perfect. The large table next to arrived and the whole atmosphere changed (see above). This meant I was left feeling rushed. My main arrived very quickly - however it was obviously the table being seated was disrupting the waitress from being able to get to place my meal down. I had to take it off her mid air and felt sorry that she was as rushed as she was. I ordered the Gressingham duck. It tender and juicy - cooked medium rare, but slightly under seasoned . The broccoli was cooked perfectly, and the truffle mash was delicate and light- full of flavour. The jus was non- existent and there was more of a thick gravy on it- I just hope it was gluten free. The pear was firm yet lacked flavour. As the large seated table now seemed to take priority, no checked on me to see if my main course was ok or if I needed anything. Being a solo eater, it seemed that priority of the large party was given by waiting staff. As soon as I was finished eating my main, my plate was whipped from under me and a dessert menu given. I was about to ask which items were gf but the waitress that bought the menu over had already left the table prior to me getting a word out. I decided against dessert and coffee. I was in the restaurant 38 minutes start to finish. I on now it states it’s not an ‘all night table’ and that’s fine but 38 minutes in a mid-high end restaurant - that is not acceptable. It’s a shame because the food was good but the service went downhill. Clearly not all customers are treated equally. A 6/10 from me.
Nice place. We were accommodated to shift our booking to earlier- that was nice. Food was good as was the bread. Sadly the poached egg was more boiled than poached. The sticky toffee pudding was so dry that I had to ask for more sauce to be able to eat it. It felt as the pudding was stale. When we asked for the bill first time the request was acknowledged by the waitress but she did ot bring it for a while so we asked again. She replied I heard you the first time and returned with the bill and slammed it on our table. Once again this was not followed up with actually coming back with the card machine. We then asked another to pay the bill. Sadly good food was ruined by bad service.
Super personnel très sympathique Très bon et copieux À recommander
The staff was great. Food was good. Able to be seated early.
Excellent experience. Will return soon again. Couldn't fault it at all.
Very enjoyable dinner with family. Staff were friendly and professional. The food was great.
Always a great experience, good food and atmosphere all for a reasonable price.
Friendly staff and lovely venue. I would recommend - wine great!
The Caprese and Venison dishes were excellent, but I was a bit disappointed in the sticky toffee pudding, which I found “heavier” than expected.
Lovely food and service right by the river , wasn’t allowed to sit in. The balcony to have lunch which was a shame
Meal was good, but a loud atmosphere and average service. The sauces and desserts were also a bit too sweet for our taste.
Our party of 6 enjoyed each of our dishes - thank u !
Great location and interior, nice staff, food was not that great.
Both meals were great thank you for a great time
Friendly, efficient staff. Good food, nicely presented. Overall enjoyable experience.
We enjoyed our lunch very much. The lunch menu is very good value for money and delicious too. Food served very quickly which was nice with young children. We will be back again :)
Fantastic service. Friendly and acomadating staff. Happy to help. Thank you for an amazing experience
Lovely atmosphere ambiance food and service - a great place to dine for my last night in Scotland after three weeks
Really enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service! Would definitely come back and recommend to others!
Loved it. We last visited in 2002 so it was a great pleasure to revisit and enjoy a lovely meal in a super setting.
Merveilleux moment, serveuses très agréables malgré que nous ayons eu du mal à comprendre la langue. Merci pour leur patience 🙏🏻
Very pleasant experience and the food was amazing. Bit of table shuffling beside us by the staff so the manageress gave us our bottle of wine on the house for the inconvenience . Very nice gesture. Definitely visit next time we visit Inverness.
We ordered steak which was very fatty, and the mustard/ pepper sauce was overwhelming in flavour and quantity. Insufficient veg. The sticky toffee pudding was very dry and virtually impossible to eat with a spoon, as though it had been microwaved for too long. Certainly not value for money and would think twice about going back.
Another fantastic visit lovely meal great service would definitely recommend going.
Celebrated.our engagement, amazing food and lovely service. Thanks again! E+H x
Food, service and atmosphere excellent as always. Will definitely be back
Fantastic restaurant would highly recommend to anyone visiting Inverness or like us, who live here!
Great food as always at the Mustard Seed, only comment is 1 glass of wine and 1 small tin of beer £21.50 !!! Seriously over the top !!
We had a wonderful evening. We got reservations ahead of time (which I recommend). Our waiter Andrew was amazing! Our food was delicious! I had a steak that was cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Fabulous tasting food with amazing service from very friendly staff.
The food was delicious! I loved it so much on my previous visit that I made a point to go back the next night.
Its a lovely restaurant, food good too. We had a really nice table upstairs by the window.
What a great venue Staff friendly and attentive food excellent Thoroughly enjoyed our visit
Great as always! Generous portions and great value! Great customer service.
Great food and excellent service. We will be back. Thanks
Unfortunately my steak was not great but I received a refund so all good. Service was fantastic, wine and starters excellent! Thanks again
It was good food, good service, and a nice atmosphere
Unfortunately, our dinner experience last night was quite disappointing. Our table was poorly placed under a noticeable draft from above, and the atmosphere was rather noisy, making it difficult to enjoy our meal comfortably. The service left much to be desired. Our waitress, an older woman, seemed impatient and serious throughout the evening. She answered our questions in a rude and dismissive manner and never came by to check on us while we were eating. Towards the end of the meal, when she finally tried to engage a little with us, she walked away before we could even finish answering the questions. The staff overall seemed stressed and possibly understaffed. At one point, a waitress accidentally dropped a shrimp on the floor while serving another table, and instead of addressing the situation, she pretended nothing had happened until the customers themselves noticed and complained. Additionally, the staff were polishing cutlery right behind our table, which felt unprofessional and disruptive. As for the food, while it was decent, both my companion and I ordered our meat medium rare, but both were unfortunately overcooked. Overall, this experience fell far below our expectations. The atmosphere, service, and attention to detail left much to be desired. Sadly, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on our visit.
Superb food served with promptly by friendly staff who stopped to talk to us and seemed unhurried ...fabulous setting overlooking the river ...so glad we came back !
