We were 10 people and we all had a lovely meal. Great quality with excellent service - very impressed as it was one of the busiest nights of the year

The staff were pleasant and the meal was not too bad but the room was cold and lacked the kind of atmosphere you would expect, despite a large Christmas tree. We got the impression that we had been pushed upstairs out of the warm festive atmosphere in the main reataurant. We would not "rush back".

We had booked for 4 people in the tunnel room but needed to add 2 more to the party. They offered us a table in the bar. Unfortunately it was so busy and noisy in the bar area we couldn’t talk to each other. It would have been better if they just said they couldn’t accommodate any more.

Superb food and excellent service. The place itself is beautiful inside and very different. The menu is seasonal and the Daube of Beef I had was amazing.

Food is good and well cooked. Staff pleasant and hard working Service is good. There are a lot of people in the pub so it can be noisy

Lovely meal although the main course was rather slow in being served. Also the room was not very warm, consequently i felt cold. Staff were excellent. Happy Christmas!

Wonderful atmosphere, great staff and always excellent food. This evening meal was as good as ever but their Sunday lunch is, in my opinion, the best in the north east!

A booked party of 7 and arrived on time. Wait of 1hour for starters another 30 mins for main course after prompting. Rushed dessert. Unacceptable!

Great pub and lively atmosphere with a pretty restaurant sparkling with Christmas lights. We had the chicken liver pate and tempura king prawns for starters. Both were delicious. They were not too heavy leaving plenty room for the main meal. My partner had the Duck and I had the beef burger with chips. Very good too. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. We will return!

Great food, amazing frangipane desert!! Really busy and noisy downstairs on a Friday night so if you want to be able to talk ask for a table upstairs. Great atmosphere though. Would definitely go again.

We stopped at the Blackbird en route to Newcastle Airport as we wanted a good tasty lunch before flying and we reckoned we would not get that at a reasonable price at the airport. Wereally enjoyed the food at the Blackbird- tasty and good portions. Service was also great. We will definitely return if in the area again.

We went to the blackbird for Sunday lunch and booked in advance. Our order was taken fairly quickly but we then had to wait 45 minutes for our meal-2 roasts. I thought after all this time that they would be fresh but they weren't, everything had obviously been cooked previously and kept warm. Nothing tasted freshly cooked, especially the roast potatoes which were hard and very dry. I can't understand such a long wait for food to be served from a hot plate. Nothing on the meal was particularly awful but nothing was nice either and the long wait was unacceptable for what was served, no apology or explanation was given for the wait. The table behind us asked for the bill after waiting too long for their deserts, they only wanted a child's ice- cream! The serving staff were very friendly, but let down by the food and long wait. Would not return.

Ordered 2 steaks, one meal was completely wrong and we were told that to put the order right would be 20 to 30 minutes wait. With one meal correct we were not prepared to sit and wait for the correct meal to be prepared. We accepted the incorrect meal for which we were charged £4 extra. This was not really acceptable as we were the only ones in the restaurant. We will go elsewhere in future. Steve Dugdall

Service was on the slow side, once the placing was order we waited 40 minutes. When I asked how much longer our food was going to be I was then told the "nut roast" which was order takes 25 minutes!! Which was not explained by the waitress when placing the order, the food was very good despise the poor service.

First visit to The Blackbird and we found that it had a great atmosphere even though it was rather busy. Our part of four had different meals and all were satisfied by the standard of the food. We felt the menu was a little small with a limited choice and the main meals were only just warm enough. We will however try this restaurant again in the future.

We spent a very pleasant evening at the Blackbird - the service, food and wine were all first class, and on our experience we would certainly recommend eating here.

On arrival we were shown to a bar room table that was such a height as to require bar stools to sit and eat Sunday lunch which was totally unacceptable, we were then shown to a small table which was barely large enough to sit four people never mind the five that we had booked for, food orders were taken and the staff later informed us that there was a 40 minute delay to service. The table was too small to accommodate the drinks and the food so some drinks were needing to be placed on a ledge behind the bench seat, once the accompanying vegetables arrived it was difficult to accommodate these dishes too and the whole experience felt cramped. The waitress managed to pour the gravy from one of the plates she was serving into the lap of the guest she was standing beside. Not the best experience of dining and we will certainly be trying other establishments before trying this one again.

first visit and we really enjoyed our meal. the staff were very friendly, and the food was lovely. I had fillet steak it was cooked perfectly to my liking, wife had chicken, and she loved it. were never hurried between courses and the sweet was worth waiting for. will definitely be back. only one minor criticism if any, with not having been before and not knowing were restaurant was, we entered through a packed bar and had to push through one way then back again. but don't let that put you off.

Good atmosphere and good food. Our table was in the tunnel room and it was cosy. Slow roast rib of beef was delicious. Recommend the red Shiraz - perfect. Will be back.
