Reallt excellent food in a beautiful setting. Impressed to see a separate, extensive vegan and vegetarian menu. Looking forward to going back again very soon!

Excellent food and service. I marked down a point because they put peas in the cabbage, I love cabbage so was pleased to see it on my plate; I then spotted the peas and was disappointed. That said that is only my personal preference.

WOW!!! Stunning restaurant in what was originally a church. Stained glass windows give it a fab ambience. The steaks are cooked to perfection & the chips are to die for.....yum yum.

From walking in to leaving we were treated like we were the only customers in there, even though the restaurant was full. The staff are wonderful and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Such a shame. We have been there several times before. This time it was slow service, the main was not up to standard. They discounted the bill. Such a disappointment.

Always a fantastic meal, atmosphere and service Happy to accommodate cocktails in their outdoor space, then inside and out again for our final course Sensational quality, interesting building The best in Westbourne, Bournemouth, Dorset.... in my humble opinion

Even though we’ve lived in Bournemouth for some time this was the 1st time we’ve dined here and were extremely pleased with the service/food and atmosphere. When looking for somewhere to dine we tend to aim for Michelin star restaurants and this experience was very close to it. Would highly recommend and will be booking again

The food was very good overall, athough, the two sticky toffee puddings were rock hard and difficult to eat. The staff were very pleasant and the place had a nice atmosphere.

Everything was absolutely brilliant. However we were not prompted to order side dishes so were a little unexpectedly put out by the portions. If we had been prompted about the side dishes all of us would have ordered them as we could have eaten more. Otherwise excellent food and service.

The building inside is breathtaking the food is to die for, however we were seated at 7.45 and didn't get asked for a drink for 25 minutes, 45 minutes later our starter arrive, 50 minutes later our main arrived and so it went on until 10.45

To start there was a very friendly greeting. The food we had was served on hot plates (very important). All our steaks were cooked the way we liked and the sweets were also excellent. The house red wine went down equally as well! Very reasonably priced will go again.

We asked for our beef rare but it came well done. After sending it back 20 minutes later they brought us steak. Neither of us like or wanted steak. We sent it back, paid for our drinks and left hungry.

Wonderful location, food and service. The roast beef dinner was the best we've had away from home and the wine and beer selection was excellent. Will definitely return.

Plates is located in the upper half of what was once a church. The background to the cooking area still has the original stain glass windows The restaurant offers two menus, with one specifically catering for vegetarian/vegaj. Both menus offer a handful of starters, mains and desserts. The slow cooked beef I had on the 21st July just meelted in the mouth. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Wasn't happy as the tables outside were very dirty and black from the smoke. We had to go and sit inside, although the restaurant was unfortunately empty... Food was OK.

Having enjoyed a lovely evening meal last month I decided to take some work colleagues there for lunch. The first menu we were given basically just offered steak and chips or vegetarian options. Nothing else. So we asked and were given 2 set menus, both rather pricey for lunches, £30 or £32. Again we asked if they had a lunch menu and we were given their evening a la carte menu which also consisted of big heavy main meals more suited to people who had all evening to dine, not people on a lunch break. After ordering, the meals took more than 45 minutes to arrive. Quite disappointing.

Excellent food and very well presented. Portions were just right and did not overwhelm the plate. Service was very friendly and efficient. Even prepared a pudding for one of our party that wasn't on the menu. Overall a great dining experience in calm and relaxing surroundings. Will take a lot of beating from anywhere in the local area.

Fish cakes were potato cakes with two small pieces of salmon and huge hard lumps of potato for £15.50! Staff disinterested until we complained loudly.

Very warm welcome. We went of steak night when a rump steak is £12.00 My steak was perfectly cooked and had plenty of flavour. My partner’s was a bit cheesy tasting and more chewy. Still represents good value for money. Sticky toffee pudding was good but the melt in the middle choc pudding would be better with a more intense chocolate flavour and no nuts on the top. Drinks very reasonably priced. The lone waiter was really excellent.

Whilst the food was good the service certainly fell well short. At the end of our meal three hours after arrival we voiced our concerns and the reason given was difficulty in recruiting staff. There appeared enough bodies to us and training could save the day. Not sure if we will be returning any time soon. Shame as this could be so much better.
