Too expensive compared to the food quality. The service really poor. The bread is an extra charge. The pinot grigio glass was almost vinegar. The lemon tart was old.

Fantastic as usual, a nice spot for seafood and steak. I'd recommend a pot of mussels, loved the Whisky, Bacon & Creme sauce with that.

Mussels good, but steak was average at best. Considering the prices we were expecting more - not good value for money! Staff very friendly but owner quite rude, wouldn't go back.

Second visit to this restaurant, last time was two years ago. Great food, very fresh and oysters were superb. Staff very friendly. Would definitely visit again.

food average, nothing special, did not taste or see any freshness, receptionist good, service very bad and unfriendly, I would not go again and I would not recommend.

Fantastic food and excellent service. Seafood starters were mouthwatering and the medium rare rib eye steaks the best we've tasted! Restaurant is smaller than we'd realised, however, had a terrific atmosphere. We will definitely return!

Enjoyed a surf and turf. Both were cooked perfectly to order and because it's seafood, it was out at the table relatively quickly! (especially helpful when there is a fussy toddler whining to go home). The desserts were also phenomenal. (The amount of food is just enough to leave room for dessert) There was a lovely irish cream chese cake and one of the best banoffee pies I've ever had the pleasure of.

Mussels were excellent. The cod special was also excellent. The wine was very good and the service was just the right touch between unmindful and overly solicitous.

Came with my family on Saturday night and the staff were super polite and attentive! Amazing mussels - would definitely recommend the ones with bacon.

We had an excellent meal and there was a good atmosphere in the restaurant. Highlights were the oyster bloody mary shots and the picanha rump steak.

Very good meal. adequate service, but lacking. Servers should know what is available and time mains to arrive simultaneously, not sequentially. I would eat here again.

The quality of Beef was excellent!!! The best beef ever... with tenderness and sweetness. Mussels and oysters are good as well. The service was very good as well. Highly recommended!!!!!!

I had the mussels in white wine, shallots, garlic and cream, and they were absolutely fantastic! There were almost too many for me to eat. Excellent value for money. My companions each had a steak, two different types, which they really enjoyed. Would definitely recommend as the atmosphere is very relaxed, the service is friendly, and the food is brilliant.

Visited the Mussel and Steak Bar for a birthday dinner last Sunday and found the place to be very mediocre. For starters we had the oysters which were lovely then followed by the mussels which were also nice but a touch spicy. For the main we ordered the seafood platter which was a disappointment. The 'Platter' consisted mainly of mussels with one queen scallop and 2 prawns and approx. 4 cockles. We mentioned this to the waiter who simply shrugged and agreed with us. Would I dine at the Mussel and Steak again??...probably not! There are better restaurants around that provide better value for money at the same cost or cheaper!

Mussels are very fresh and pear dessert is excellent but only available on Saturday. Service is quite good and the location is very convenient. Must try !!

First visited Mussel & Steak in 2006 and have returned many times with friends when we visit from the US. Still our favorite restaurant in Edinburgh.

Excellent meal and outstanding service. Had the seared trout and the ribeye, with the scallops for starters. Every dish was cooked to perfection and was extremely well presented.

No info on gluten free nor asking about sides. However service, speed, and as we had mussels they were diligent about cleaning the waste Food could not be faulted.

Best Mussles in the world! Even though located at one of the tourist hot spots of Edinburgh, it is a really great place to eat.

Excellent food and service. Staff were friendly and there was a good choice of food to select from the menu. We were at a table for six so did feel slightly cramped upstairs but otherwise we had a lovely evening.
